I really enjoy Warhammer 40K.  BUt then we make sure we do not play with any asshats that insist on exact detail on the figures.  Hell most of our minatures aren't even fully painted.

Lessee...

Car Wars
Battletech (the group I played with used 3025-era rules only)
Star Trek Tactical (not SFB, but the very similar FASA game)
The Traveller: TNE space tactical combat system (IIRC it was called Brilliant Lances or something like that - been too long)
And, though I've only got to play it at cons, Ogre/GEV

Yea, Brilliant Lances.  It was the detailed system for small ship combat.  There was also Battle Rider for larger ship combat.  Both were good but I found them a bit slow.  I did like have sensor lock being a big part of the game - or was that more in the space combat game for T2300?.

Emryys

Brilliant Lances was fun but if you have more than 2-3 ships... *zzzzz*

Another for Car Wars :)

Looks like I'll be getting onto 40K, as my little cousin has just got the bug... any advice so I don't have to buy him everything

Ignore the rules on painting and miniature must have item.  Just use what ever you want for markers and use the 40k rules.
Oh yeah a $10 laser pointer will be the best accessory you will every buy for figuring line of sight.
  1. A robot may not harm a human being, or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.
   2. A robot must obey the orders given to it by human beings, except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.
   3. A robot must protect its own existence, as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law.

Hey, that's a good idea for tons of games!

Not just for annoying people in theatres :p

Bagpuss

Game Workshop (in that order)
Necromunda
Space Hulk
Dark Future (Car Wars type game, but less complex, and you could use matchbox/hotwheels scale cars)
Blood Bowl
W40K

Others (no particular order)
Star Crusier (2300AD Space Navy battle game, "X-ray missiles away!")
Battletech
D&D 3.5

Jangling Jack

I'll add Battlefleet Gothic to the list.

I liked Striker (GDW), but it was difficult at the time to get great 15mm figs, so we mostly used it to make cool guns, vehicles, etc for Traveller

It was good but the construction rules were a tad too nitty gritty.  Fire, Fusion, and Steel even more so.

Oh Boy

Full Thrust
Dirt Side II
Star Grunts II
Warmaster
Epic Armageddon
DBM
DBA
Warhammer Ancients.
I like my women the way I like my coffee, Ground up and in the freezer!

GreyOne

D+D Miniatures.  Nice, simple, stream-lined rules.

Hells yes.

I quite enjoyed playing the freebie demo of Panzer Grenadier from Avalanche.
