This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

A remake, same game, modern graphics

The original was pretty much literally D&D in computer form in terms of rules. Different classes, but otherwise real close. The original rulebook even had cartoons by the DMG cartoon guy.

Updated for the modern audience.

Ugh...

I was waiting for it to come out of early access before taking a look at it and this quelled my interest, for now.
I'll wait and see if it will be possible to easily use custom portraits.

Interestingly, this appears to be a strictly graphical/UI update fitted onto the original mechanics. So I suspect some people are in for a real surprise when the game proceeds to metaphorically beat the shit out of them.

I admit I'm hoping for some built in options (if only for an automapper, I hate mapping by hand). But I'm kind of gleefully intrigued by a new generation getting schooled by one of the classics.

I can't see anyone who started gaming after the 1990s having the patience to play a remake of a game this old.

Heh. Wanna see them flip the fuck out, remake Wizardry IV.

I had an Apple //c but I got Bards Tale II and The Wizards Crown, never got to actually play Wizardry until around 2000 when they released that boxed set with all the games. But I did it old school and used the manual from the box and played the originals in an Apple emulator. Holy fuck, I had heard IV was unforgiving, but that's the understatement of the century. I gave up after a couple hours, using the clues to even get started. Anyone who legitimately beat that game unassisted deserves to be a real wizard.

Anyway, I was kind of happy this was being released as I was just playing the original again a few months ago. (I)dentiffy S doesn't count as cheating, does it?
It takes considerable knowledge just to realize the extent of your own ignorance.

Yeah, Wiz4 was brutal. I never played it, but I've read walkthroughs and it makes Dark Souls look downright relaxing.
