This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Dawn Patrol questions...
« on: March 01, 2013, 01:03:19 AM »
Does anyone know of a game play video of TSR's Dawn Patrol game?

It seems really cool and I think I've 98% got it but I have a suspicion I've got a couple subtleties wrong.

If not would anyone be willing to field a few questions?

It's been 30 years since I traded my copy away (fool that I am).  I remember you had piloting and gunnery skill.  Hit points for the wings, tail, and fuselage.  The maneuvers were on cards that you played face down so your opponent wouldn't know what they were when they played theirs.  D20 to hit wasn't it?

Yeah, fun game but that's about the best I can do.

Same boat here...it's been 30 years since I played, but I don't recall it being all that tough, though. You probably got it all right after around 3 games.

Ah yes, we used to play DP quite a bit back in the day. Bristol two man fighters with twin rear gun were really nasty. Wait for someone else to move, move and end up right in front of them and then hit them from the front at point blank range with no risk of return fire.

Shoot.

Okay, my biggest stumbling block is timing during tailing. After cards are picked and reveled the planes excecute the moves.

Then shoot? Then complete their normal movement? Other planes move?

I know all the peices I'm just having trouble seeing the sequence.

Oh the tailing system, you would have to ask about that... That's probably something that I wanted to forget.

Got to play it again last night, handled tailing like so:

After cards are flipped the tailed player immediately completes their maneuver card and pauses.

Then the tailing player can move up to two spaces and complete their card (keep in mind they have to complete a maneuver and don't HAVE to use the same on as the tailed player).

The tailed player completes their movement

The tailing player completes their movement

Shooting happens.

Declare tailing (assuming the tailing player is still in a good position).

Luckily their were only two planes in the game. If there were more I don't quite grok when this would happen in relation to other planes.
