This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Anyone play(ed) this?
Any demo versions?

I think I'm done with CoH, maybe this will quench my thirst!

I played it shortly after it came out, up until the day I heard Sony was buying it, then I bailed. After the way they raped SWG, I swore I'd have nothing to do with them again.

That said, I liked it. Actually, CoH feels a LOT like Matrix (and reminded me of it right off the bat, with the cityscapes and gangs and whatnot). Since you don't like CoH, you might not like Matrix for the same reasons. Now, I haven't played it in a long time; no doubt much has changed.

That that said, I bought CoH on Friday. I'm enjoying the hell out of it. Might not last long, but so far so good. I just need to curb my altaholic tendencies, which is damn hard in that game!

You may find this helpful.  It's an extended actual play review done by Scott Sharkey, and while it's obviously written with comedy value in mind it does provide some insight into how the game actually plays.

CoH is the best MMORPG I've played thus far, however it is fairly shallow. I dont' really want to criticise it (unlike Warcrap) but it does get a little tedious. But then all these games do in the end.

I've seen it for sale dirt cheap on Amazon, but it's the original non SOE version. Does that mean it would be useless? I'd tke a punt but not if the original version  won't work at all (which means it shouldn't be on sale if that's the case).

I wouldn't think it would matter. You might even be able to buy it onlin through Sony's Station access or somesuch.

You can, but the beauty of the original version is that A) it's a couple of £££ and B) it works with W98 which I has!

Trial version would be nice (they explicitly don't do one for this though).
