This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

City of Heroes: Synapse Task Force report
« on: July 23, 2007, 11:56:28 AM »
Well, this weekend I had one of my heroes (Velvet Rabbit on Guardian) do the Synapse Task Force.

OMG, this was a long, grueling series of missions.

Ok, for those who don't know: the Task Force is like a series of special missions that you do in a sort of endurance mode. Once the team is chosen and the Task Force kicks off, you basicly go from one mission to another in a set timeline. You can't add anyone else to the team, and it's considered bad form to drop out. The other contacts are shut down (although you can still use shops), and you basicly have to rock through the missions to find the arch-villain at the end: in this case the Clockwork King.

So long story short:

We started out doing door missions, fighting lots of clockwork. We eventually moved on to locating some secret clockwork factories and shut those down. We did a hunt at one point where we had to hunt down like 30 or 40 clockworks.. and then a patrol. Finally we unlocked a gigantic version of Babbage- a giant robot the size of a small building--- that was rampaging around Steel Canyon.

That was very cool because at that point some guys from my Supergroup called in an allied Supergroup that wasn't on the task force... and we all sort of teamed up on the big bot.

The very last mission was against the Clock King himself-- big robot (about half the size of babbage) with a brain-in-the-jar kind of deal on his head.

At the end of it, man! I never want to see a clockwork again. I got a great single-origin enhancement (I chose accuracy for my illusion/kinetics controller) and a cool badge, and I got to know the 5 other players in that group really really well.

So it was pretty cool. Very long. My guy went up three levels over the course of the Task Force.. I think I might do the Positron one next...

Synapse is one of the most annoying in the game. (I am not sure about some of the high end ones, as I've not done them, but I do know Synapse is the least fun of all the ones I've done.)

OMG it was long. That's my main issue.

But what made it fun, I guess was the people playing. And by the end of it, I got Phantom Army, which is such a cool power.
