Anyone have info to share?

I didn't know about it, but I have the old edition on my shelf. While I never played it, I did spend many an hour building cars for it. Honestly, I don't see much need to update the system, though maybe a little on the technological side (I mean: Early eighties car technology and tech-speculation vs 40 years of actual car-tech...).

Hmm.

I must ponder this. Maybe I WILL look into it after all..

I decided not to Kickstart it. From reading the KS and watching the videos it seems like they kept the parts I liked least (the turning key and phased movement) and simplified the parts I liked the most (detailed car building). The new Cyberpunk Red did the same thing... I LIKED those old games that had huge lists of brand-name equipment and weirdly specialized upgrades with complex balancing required to make it all come together.

Yeah its been 'streamlined' so they can gouge the fans on ye ol edition treadmill again. And locked many fans out of development by making it so only those who ordered a shirt on the Ogre KS could participate. Horray.

To be fair though the changes are not too severe. And not much fan input was likely ever a thing in prior iterations. But a few changes seem counter productive and one really has to wonder what the hell feedback the backers let in on development were giving? "God I hate customization! Get rid of it!"
But overall its not as severe as some other games have lately suffered. Publishers really need to get it out of their heads that 'streamlining' a popular game will somehow draw in more planers and NOT lose older fans. Then again the original was pretty streamlined as it were.

addendum: In retrospect I think overall nothing is really wrong with this. Its just SJG doing what SJG does. But the way they handled it didnt sit well with a few. YMMV.
