This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

I've heard very good things about the Arkham Card Game but I'm not sure my wife will tolerate yet another Cthulhu themed game.

Playing the shit out of Zombicide Black Plague. It's great as the GF really enjoys playing it too.

That looks great with cool minis but will take a while to save up for.

Let's see...uh, three that are In Process.

Preparing to embark is Star Explorer.  It's Star Trek with the serial numbers filed off - fly a ship through space, explore four planets, get random missions you need to solve using the crew on your ship.  Wanted to do it slightly bigger than "paper map and chit" scale, so I bought a big damned space cloth with 2" hexes on it and will be using Star Trek Attack Wing ships and foam balls as planets.  Also have a bunch of colored pawns to represent the various landing teams (I'm making each "team" into one person and giving them all names).  I'm just about ready to go with this one.

On approach vector alpha is This War of Mine.  Was iffy and on the fence, decided to take the plunge.

On approach vector bravo is Tiny Epic Quest.  Was sort of ehhhhh until I saw the little greeblies that came with it.  "Shield.  Sword.  Bomb.  Boomerang.  Flute.  A fairy...holy shit, this is The Legend of Zelda..."  Plus, couldn't pass up a copy at twenty-five bucks.

I hear that. I unfortunately saw their kickstarter for Zombicide: Green Horde. So I spent more. ;p

They are dirt cheek if you actually play them.  Average 60 bucks a game just use a round number.  4 peope per game, game lasts an hour.  $15 for the first hour.  Play it twice, $7.50.  Play a 3rd time $5 an hour.  Decide you don't like it.  Sell it second hand for 20 bones.  Or go to a math trade and get a new game for free.

Good games are cheeper then books.  And books are cheep.

Most of my boardgame play has been prototypes, as my boardgame meetup is for designers.

Rise of Tribes has been my favorite so far.

Here's the KS campaign.

The Kickstarters are getting crazy. I've been dropping $100 to $150 on boardgames based on my assumption/hope I will get enough play out of them over time to justify the ROI.
But its all about the gazillion minis.

Fortunately, there is a number of excellent card games in the $20 range.

That looks cool. I don't have money to Kickstart anyone's project but I'd be interested if it's ever for sale.

I bought a copy of V Wars: Blood and Fire. I got it for a huge discount.

The box was damaged when I got it. But none of the contents were.

It is by one of the newer designers of Risk. But it has an interesting twist to it. Units can switch sides at a moment's notice. So you have to be very careful as you gain territory.

The main driver behind V Wars is a an airborne virus that changes people into vampires. And the goal is to get a worldwide win condition with either side. Depending on how much territory is controlled.

I thought it sounded like a blast for a game to play at a convention.

I picked up my old copies of Hero's Quest and Dragon Strike from my folks house a few weeks ago. My gaming group is going to do a few board game sessions until we get DFRPG delivered and run through those two.

How was it?  A few of my friends played at a game cafe an hour away.  They liked it.  We don't have time to play the games we already have.  (Selveral hundred over multiple peoples collections)  So I am gerenally opposed to new games.  But they liked it and half my players no it now, so there is a decent chance someone will get it.  (I seem to be the only one opposed to new games on primciple)

What did you think?

I enjoyed it. Building strategy with some backstabbing.

Speaking of boardgames, does anyone know any good ones for the Thirty Years' War or other Renaissance-period stuff, particularly France during the reigns of Louis XIII and Louis XIV?
