This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Boardgames - What Did You Buy and/or What are You Playing?

Surprised there isn't already a thread for this. I reckon some will view the massive recent popularity of board games as some kind of negative and even evil drain on RPGs.

I think they actually are part of the small revival in D&D and RPGs that we are currently experiencing.

And because I don't care for endless semantic debates we're going to include card games here as well.

The wife and I have been playing Thunder and Lightning recently. It is a nicely designed two player card game that is easy to grasp but has some strategic depth so I suspect it will stand up well to repeated games. And the assets are damn pretty and good quality. Plus I dig the Norse theme.

About my favorite is Tigris and Euphrates.  Its a cool 3 or 4 player tile laying game.  Its well designed.  You can win with or without starting direct conflict.

I've heard good things about that game. Never been able to get into any tile laying games. Can't get into the theme of growing wheat. But I'm sure there are some good ones out there. Any with a more unusual theme than growing potatoes or what-have-you?

This one isn't growing wheat.  Its growing a civilization.  There are also coups and invasions.

I also really have been liking Evolution.  Its an engine building card laying game.

Cool, Reiner Knizia usually makes awesome games.

Is Evolution actually about evolution or is it a different game to this one?

"The Lion Guard: Protect the Pride Lands" is popular at my house.

My daughter goes for the "Hatchimals: The Eggventure Game."

As for me, I'm trying to get someone willing to play "Louis XIV."

Or "The Castles of Burgundy."

I'm a bit of a sucker for Renaissance France-set games.

Carcassonne?

I also quite like Caverna.  Its Agricola rebuilt as Dwarf Fortress.

Also 7 wonders.  Its a great game.  You get a hand of 7 cards play one and pass the others.  You do that through 3 ages alternating directions of passing.  It can play 3-7 players and is great with any number.  There are 7 different types of cards, which means several different paths to victory.  Best of all since everyone plays at the same time its a nice quick game with any number of players.

The theam is the ancient world for those that are intetested in theme.  Its a great game and very well designed.  Anyone that wants to design games should try it, just to see what they have done.

I got the Arkham Horror Card Game a few months ago.
It's nice in that it supports single player as well as Multiplayer.
Basically a story based card game.   Good fun. :)
