While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

My Endeavor 2nd edition Kickstarter just arrived, impressively weighty.

Not as badly as the new Monsterpocalypse though as its hit the shelves. We knew this was not going to go well then they announced it was changing to a "hobby game"... ugh... 50$ for 1 monster, 5 units, a paper map and some cardstock buildings? Actual buildings costing 15-25 each? Monsters averaging 25 each?  And thats per player. And you have to assemble and paint the minis now.

Doing the math. To get the equivalent of a two player starter from the original youd have to drop around 400$, compared to the 50$ the original cost which included assembled and painted minis, buildings, and so on.

Oh this is hilarious.

Hasbro's new Monopoly is out.

Monopoly for Millenials. Which takes a-lot of jabs at millenials. According to one source thats because they arent buying games. So someone at Hasbro apparently decided "Who cares what they think!" Pretty funny if its true.

I've bought a few boardgames over the last few months.

Star Realms, a Deck builing game in a Scifi setting.
https://www.starrealms.com/
Multiplayer competitive only. The rules are pretty simple and a game lasts about 30 minutes. so a good game to break the ice.

Hero Realms.  Made by the same people who made Star realms.
https://www.herorealms.com/
Same sort of mechanics with a Fantasy theme.
There's add on boxes to introduce Solo and cooporative play on top of the core Competitive Multiplayer.

DragonFire
https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/226501/dragonfire
Another card based game with a Fantasy setting and you run a character where its progression is saved in between sessions as you play via adding stickers and stuff that add abilities as you level up.
Actually quite fun... Sort of a Card based boardgame with RPG elements.

Middle Earth the Wizards.
This is a REALLY old card game based in Middle Earth and you explore areas going on adventures.
It's a competitve game I believe.
It was made by I.C.E. (Iron Crown enterprises) many years ago and I used to play it wayback, but lost the cards in one of my moves.
It's out of print now, but you can pick up cards online and it;s not that expensive.
I got an entire box of several 100 cards to play with on Ebay.
I haven't had a chance to download the rules and play the game yet, but I have some great memories of this game from years ago.

So far Dragonfire, Star Realms and Hero Realms have been a hit at boardgames meet ups I goto. I always seem to be able to get people to play those.

Board games have gotten too expensive

I agree. I've noticed that even the classic board games are expensive. The cheaper versions of classic board games are usually poorly made or have cardboard instead of miniatures to save on production. I'm going to buy Dungeon! next month because it's cheap and it's been on my bucket list for a couple of years now. I was disappointed to see that instead of WotC upgrading the pieces to miniatures, the characters are all cardboard tokens. That said, it's cheap and the board itself looks great.

Coming in my next order from my online comic book store is: Red Sonja Hyrkanias Legacy Board Game.

I ordered it just over a year ago. And it is finally arriving within the next couple of weeks.

From what I gather. It was a Kickstarter project. But I never heard of the Kickstarter until the game itself was advertised in Diamond's Previews. But I'm a fan of the character. And the game sounded fun. So I sent for it.

So once I have it in hand. I will come back and tell you all what I think of it.

Red Sonja Hyrkania's Legacy showed up. And it was everything I hoped it would be. Just a good quality game that delivered on the promises made by the company who made it,

All of the pieces are cardboard. But that's not a negative to me. The game is fully functional. Which is the important thing to me.

For a kickstarter originated game. This is really the sort of product I wanted to see. One handled with total professionalism.

Fallout is my newest buy. For the 25mm Minis! Plus Modiphus has built a clunky RPG on top of the boardgame rules. I have this homebrewed d10/precentiles RPG rules set from the Internet that looks to be simply splendid.

Finally got to play FANTASY REALMS and its now in our regular rotation.
https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/223040/fantasy-realms

It's a card game where you try to score points using card combos. Even though there is a limited number of cards, the potential for innumerable combos is notable so no two games feel the same. As your starting 7 cards is random and the game only lasts 20 minutes, you have to build your strategy off your starting cards, not some predetermined "best combo" strategy.

I highly recommend it if you're looking for a fast group game, aka the kind of game you play waiting for THAT DUDE who is always late to your regular RPG session. It also has a scoring app so you can skip the mind-boggling trauma of adding up numbers!
