This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Beyond Protocol MMO: Epic Game

Apparently I was late to the conversation by an obviously upset gamer with a hardware deficiency. However, I simply couldn't leave it at that. If you're wondering what I mean, just look down a few posts for one with at similar topic.

I am Diplomat, and yes I work for Dark Sky Entertainment, the company that created Beyond Protocol (developed and published). First, to clarify some of the concerns, I should say that BP was designed to be compatible with as many different systems as possible, but as many pointed out, some systems are just not meant for 3D gaming. It will function over a 56k dialup connection, and I have personally run the game on a 6 year old laptop, but on the high end, the game has slowed down a recent alienware rig (although I can't name models). There are many features to adjust.

Now onto the game itself. It's an MMORTS, which means the player takes control of an entire empire in a persistent galaxy. This galaxy is full of star systems and planets. Each is an environment in which colonization, warring, and socialization are possible, and they are all interconnected and on one sever, so everyone plays together.

One of the biggest features of the game is the ability to customize, almost everything. Whether you want to make a projectile that does a little damage really quickly, or an enormous bomb that can be dropped from orbit and does a lot of damage every once in a while, or anything in between, is up to the designer, or in this case, the player. Customized components (including armor, engines, radar, shields and weapons) are then placed on ships or facilities which can be customized in size, layout (which side weapons fire from/how much cargo space, etc.), and texture. This makes just about every player's fleet different from one another, unless of course they decide to purchase rather than research.

However, that is not the end of customization, the game itself can be customized by the in game body known as the Galactic Senate. The GS can propose and vote on changes to the game, which introduces an entire portion of diplomatic play, because votes are public, 14 days long, and can be changed mid process, either by rhetoric or force.

Ok, that's a lot of words there, so if you're not already interested, I'm probably just wasting time and bandwidth... On the other hand if you are interested, check out the game, and its free trial at www.BeyondProtocol.com.

If you have any problems, like GameDaddy did, the proper channel to report issues is Support(at)DarkSkyEntertainment(dot)com.

Thanks

Ghost Whistler

Your website and game client don't work properly. I would also suggest not using actual in game animation as the backdrop for the login screen. I have to login (which doesn't work) before i can access the options to turn the settings down.
"Ghost Whistler" is rated PG-13 (Parents strongly cautioned). Parental death, alien battles and annihilated worlds.

Website works fine here....

Anyhow... if you can't login, how are you turning settings down you say you can't get to?

I am sorry to hear that you can't log in Ghost Whistler. However, there are no settings that require logging in. If you do see the login screen, then press escape for options. Although, if you're referring to starting up the client, then should be an option before launching the client to configure your settings. Give that a try. If that still does not work, email support at the address supplied above.

Ghost Whistler

I managed to get it to launch the tutorial, but it's crashed each time on three attempts. I think I'll give this a miss as my machine isn't going to run this. Thanks anyway.

Well I am sorry to hear that, thanks for giving it a shot.

Diplomat

A lot of compatibility issues have been fixed, as well as the website has been updated, and there is a free trial for anyone that would like to give this another shot!

Thanks.
