This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Just saw this game on sale; anyone played it? Is it any fun?
It takes considerable knowledge just to realize the extent of your own ignorance.

Well, the dearth of replies leads me to believe I shall not be buying this!

Sorry. I own it but haven't played it yet. I have played and can recommend Betrayal at the House on the Hill as a fun, asymmetrical board game that is appropriate for players newer to the hobby. As you may guess it especially shines as a Halloween game. The base game comes with I believe 50 different scenarios.

I've never played the original or the D&D reskin, but out of 2000 reviews on BGG, it rates 7.2 out of 10.  The big sell I think would be the very high replayability factor.
Even the the "cutting edge" storygamers for all their talk of narrative, plot, and drama are fucking obsessed with the god damned rules they use. - Estar

Yes, Sean Connery's thumb does indeed do megadamage. - Spinachcat

Isuldur is a badass because he stopped Sauron with a broken sword, but Iluvatar is the badass because he stopped Sauron with a hobbit. -Malleus Arianorum

"Tangency Edition" D&D would have no classes or races, but 17 genders to choose from. -TristramEvans

The only caveat to that is once you play against a boss you know how to beat them, at least in BatHotH, so while there are a ton of possible scenarios the replayability of each is fairly low. Again I'm not sure if Baldur's Gate is the same.

Keep in mind that BGGs ratings are skewed as strong votes positive or negative get dummy votes to "balance it out." The more + or - a vote the more -s or +s are added.

That is when they arent doctoring the ratings or aglomerating ratings for 2-3-4-5 different editions as if they were one thing.

I only just now saw this thread.

I have it and one of my players played it with a local group and loved it.

Have a glance at reviews over on BGG for a better idea if how it plays similar and different from Betrayal at House on the Hill.

This is a game that plays best with players on board to both work together, and potentially against eachother.
