Finally made some headway on my 3rd squad. Next week I'm planning to do a command squad and a couple commissars. Hopefully the roman standards will come in, otherwise I'll just skip the flag bearer for now or paint him without the standard.

Now I'm planning next month. I really want to do some marines but I also want a playable IG force. Hrmmmmm...

To get a playable force I'll need another squad of troopers, two more command squads (platoon and company) and a tank. Thatll give me two platoons and a tank to back them up. depending on how i kit them i could get 500 and possibly 750. That's doable in a month... But leaves my marines in the box :(

Quote from: Piestrio;684200Of course it'll depend on who you play with but IME most 40k players are pretty by the book. Lists are built around assumed senirios and opponents.

Ugh.

I'll pass on playing then; just gonna use the minis for other purposes.

Yeah, it takes a good opponent to make the game fun.

40k isn't actually a very good game, and then throw in a hyper competitive playerbase and yeah it can get difficult to play.

As an aside I'd let you take whatever character you want so long as you let me bring 502 points to a 500 point game ;)

That sounds WAAAAAAY too much like the "No let's don't play tonnage v. tonnage let's play C-Bill v. C-Bill" scam I usedta pull in Battletech.  Guys would bring n amount of mechs that cost x amount of c-bills...aaaand I'd show up with a few million in LRM and SRM carriers and beat them like redheaded stepchildren.

What's that?  I missed with eight LRM-20 shots when I fired at your Spider?  I've got eight more that hit you.

(in other words, I'd tend to think that last 2 points equals some frightening trick which you'd use to beat me around the head and shoulders squarely! :D )

So broke in my Skaven on Wednesday. 3 500 pt games vs Vampire Counts, Dark Elves, then VC again. Won 2/3.

The first game was absolutely halarious. I made some newbie tactical mistakes early on, and by the 4th round my infantry was basically gone - 30 slaves and 25 clanrats wiped out by ghouls, dire wolves, and a corpse cart. I think I managed to kill 2 dire wolves and 3 ghouls who were raised back the mext turn. all I was left with was a bunker of Plague Monks with my BSB, my Musician, my chieftain (here played by the Plague Doctor) and 12 Monks.

Dire Wolves tried to flank charge weapons team during movement, while my monks charged at the corpse cart and Vampire General. Magic phase, vamp didn't get any spells off and I activated the Plague Banner (gives rerolls on all failed attacks and wounding rolls for one turn). Ghouls too far away to charge.

Shooting phase, warpfire thrower used for the first time. HOLY CRAP! Dire Wolves down from 12 to 3. They charge but don't manage to get a single attack in.

More in a sec...

Then the Vampire issues a challenge, and seeing nothing to lose, my chieftain accepted. Bam! I down his vampire before he gets a single attack in. I don't think he was expecting my chieftain to be that fast and get 5 attacks, but then I figured vamps would have more than 2 wounds. And he rolled a 1 on his regeneration phase.

The Plague Monks don't fare nearly as well against the corpse cart, and they're wiped out leavin just the chieftain and BSB.

Next round, all the VCs troops have to make crumble rolls with the loss of the general. The dire wolves all fail, as do 5 ghouls! Then my weapons team have to make a fear test, FAIL, begin to flee but are rallied by my BSB's reroll, then try to attack the corpse cart but MISFIRE!

Rolling on the misfire chart, I get a 2... KaBoom!
But them the scatter dice extend this kaboom right into the path of the corpse cart, wiping it out!

The ghouls then charge the chief and BSB and they cut them down to one rank, tho the BSB falls in the process. The ghouls lose combat res and flee! and the sole mini left standing on the battlefield is my Plague Doctor

Upping the games to 750 points next Friday.

And as such I'll be introducing a unit of Rat Ogres into the mix. As such I present my current work in progress... The RAT-HULKS!

At 750 points all you need are slaves, slaves, slaves, maybe gutter runners and maybe a warp cannon, just maybe :D.

Though that applies to Skaven army in general, except later on you just add the cannon without maybe.
Furthermore, I consider that  This is Why We Don\'t Like You thread should be closed

The blob so far:

I'll get a platoon command squad done this week :)

Platoon squad is cleaned and assembled. I was somewhat limited by the bits I have available so It's a second-rate assualt squad at the moment. 3 Las-pistols + CC weapon and 2 flamers.

As I build more squads and have more minis I can purpose build squads per game. Nice thing about guard is I'll never be at a loss for bodies.

Those look quite professional, as good as anything I've seen in a GW shop window

I took a break from making Japanese buildings and painted these, which are 15mm scale figs from a game called The Department:

Although I don't actually like the game, I'm sure I'll find a use for the figures.

If you want closeups, etc, they're here: http://duchesscamillashorse.servegame.org/?p=505 . There are a few notes on the paintjobs, but it's not a tutorial or anything.

Those are pretty awesome.

A while back a guy at my FLGS ran a homebrew pulp minis game that was super popular. Lots of buildings and terrain.

I think he wouldn't have burnt out as quickly if he only had to build terrain at 15mm scale.

Alright. August goal is met :D

I still need to clear coat some of them and I don't have the platoon standard yet (it's in the mail).

The blob:

Yay!

It comes in at a whopping 240 pts. :D

Planning next month's models...

If I get another trooper squad, + one platoon command sqaud + a Company command squad, I'll have a 500 pt list (big boring block of dudes). Then I have one more week (I'm not planning more than a unit a week ATM) to fill...

Maybe take a crack at a tank? Or get some of my Marines done?

Decisions, decisions...
