I was just wondering what this game is like. From what I hear, it could be considered the first in which roleplaying "broke out" more or less spontaneously.

Back in the ancient day of the 80s when chicks had a vagina instead of a penis, I would attend the PacifiCon convention at the Dunfey Hotel which looked like a Disney castle. They had a crew of guys who built a YUGE minis setup and everyone played a character using AD&D (+/- house rules) and it was most awesome. I remember a dozen players per session and it went all weekend.
It was a free for all of exploration, looting and murder. A true slice of heaven.
I didn't even know it was a "Braunstein" until I read about that on an OSR blog nigh 20 years ago.
