Title: anyone played Itras By---if so, any good?
Post by: grodog on December 03, 2013, 04:29:00 AM
Someone recommended this surrealist RPG to me the other day, and I wonder if anyone here has played it, and if so whether it's any good or not?

This RPG.net review (http://www.rpg.net/reviews/archive/15/15787.phtml) speaks well of the game, and based on that the games strikes me as useful for input on how to run the city of Metropolis from Kult, as well as John Tynes' take on Carcosa from his short stories (or someone lost in a Borges/Escher environment for that matter...).

Anyone familiar with the game?

Nope. But thanks for pointing it out.

The system doesn't really sound like something I'd run, but the setting looks really, really interesting. I'd run it with OD&D just because of the reviewer's drive-by snark vs. "old school gamers who want to roll dice and kill monsters".

Quote from: ReviewThis is not a game for the 'old school gamer' who wants to roll dice and kill monsters...
Itras By is closer to a 'storygame' and to say it is 'rules lite' is an understatement...
Characters are described in terms of their dramatic qualities, goals and background...
The game is played by constructing scenes and playing them out...
When you can't 'roleplay out' a scene you can pick a resolution card...
Whatever you draw, the card encourages you to continue the story, not come to a dead end...
I'd reserve final judgement on the system until I actually play it...
Ah purple, don't ever change.
oh and
In before the move. :D

Hi, I'm one of the co-authors of the game. Thanks for your interest. :)

I've tried to collect the reviews and stuff I've come across over on http://itrasby.com (http://itrasby.com), where you'll also find some sample pages from the book, the cards for free download etc.

Best regards,
