This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

I use the CIV Editor to make maps, and then composite the overlays in Photoshop. It's SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much easier than CC2.

I probably won't be getting CC3; I have no talent for maps.  I managed to figure out CC2's vector-based system pretty easily, though; it's different from what some would expect a mapping program to be, but it's very versatile when one knows what one is doing.

That said, I'd probably hire someone to use CC3 to create maps, when the time comes that I will need them (depending on how fast I can crank out Tesla's Legacy, that could be soon).

Seeking advice, then:  I've got a hand-drawn version of my campaign area.  It's a couple of partial continents (like the Mediterranean).  I can get the image into CC2 to trace.  I can also get the trace to work (though, I'd like to do it a bit better).  The big showstopper was the fact that the coasts run off the edge of the map, which makes the fill not so great.  After a couple hours of that, I gave up.

I suggest that you import the original file, then use the line (or freehand, whichever you are more comfortable with) tool to trace ONLY the coasts, up to a point that's near where you want the edge of your map to be. then, draw in only the parts of the map border that are relavent to that particular landmass.

Then take the multipoly tool and combine the line segments into one polygon. if you do it right, putting a nice fill on it should be no problem.

draw in the map border last.

It was, and I thank you!

I will try out that method and see how it works.
