Any one playing Dwarf Fortress?

I load it up and give it a twirl every now and then.  I was going to down load a fresh copy (I've got a forest fire bug) looking through the notes it looks like he's added some new stuff in.  You can send squads on adventures now?

Or is that just the adventure mode?

Doom

I used to, but got tired of them endlessly making the broken parts more complicated...and even more broken. Let me know if it's even close to working properly on some level.

A nice education blog.

Voros

Everyone died so quickly I never felt the need to stick it out but it was fun.

I was really into the game many moons ago. I'm too old and lack the time for it now and days.

I load it up.  Play compulsively for a couple days or a week, then I won't touch the thing for months or a year.

I tried it, sadly it's not exactly the most enjoyable game out there ;/

Well its barely playable.  And once you learn it there isn't much game to hold you.  But learning it and exploring is fun.

Skarg

I played it for a while, and another while, and another while.

I think it's really interesting and greatly amusing in many ways, but also flawed.

When Tarn added the elevations to outdoor terrain in adventure mode, I had a hard time figuring out the display and controls, which discouraged me.

I mainly liked playing adventure mode, and mainly just read about other people's stories and bug reports about managing fortresses, as that seemed to be more management than I wanted to do.

But I found adventure mode limited and annoying, especially because the combat system had messed up values. I even tried modding the equipment to fix the problems, but it wasn't really possible because there are just some extremely off parts to the combat mechanics. It was frustrating because I actually like several aspects of the combat system, but just when I'm getting into it, even with my modded values, some ranged attack will do UBER DAMAGE because it is a ranged attack and ranged attacks just sometimes do uber damage for no good reason.

Agreed. I tried playing it recently, and it felt way too overwhelming.

On the flip side, I've really enjoyed RimWorld. It's definitely inspired by DF and has a more user-friendly interface. There's still a learning cliff though.
