This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Gameplay   8

Ten Times better than Codename 47.
Get it now!!!
It has all the things that made me finish Codename 47 (improved)and more.
Keeps with the concept of the first game wich was by the way what I think made it a profitable franchise, the graphics has gotten better and more polished, amazing sound, especially the music and the sounds of the guns, the AI has improved but still need some work (I hope than in Hitman Contracts this has been corrected), 21 missions in total, wich could be divided in groups, the majority were a lot of fun, some were ok, and maybe 1 or 2 were a dull.
But despise the minor downsides this was one of the most addictive games I've played, it took me 5 days to finish, and less than 7 hours of total gameplay I think.
In the end It's a major action game, that can be played any way you want, meaning that if you want to be the "Silent Assassin" you can play it with all the strategy and sneaking of the worl, or if you ratter you can take your .45 calliber Ballers or a nice SMG and blast your way through the missions, attitude that will grant your the status of Butcher by the end of the assignemts, but you'll get to pass to the next mission nevertheless.
My advice to you is to give this great game a shot, you won't be disspointed.

Yeah, I thought it might be a Hitman title given the mention of "ballers" (which I still insist is a fucking stupid name for a gun).

Though the real way to play Hitman, of course, is to start each level without any weapons at all.

That game is dull.  Well I guess I should say if you liked Hitman 1 then Hitman 2 is a huge improvement.  If however hitman 1 bored you then Hitman 2 won't win you over.

I must admit that the Hitman saga is not exactly great, but you have to remember that it is the only saga of games that mostly acomplishes to recreate the Assasin profession, or at least we (non hitmans in real life) believe the profession is like. And that´s a lot of fun to me.:D

I'd say Tenchu does a far better job of creating that Assassin feel - sure your a ninja.  But the game allows for far more freedom of play then Hitman in both range of movement allowed and level design.

Tenshu's a completely different kind of game though.  Hitman is best understood as a puzzle game.  Each level has a series of events in it that, when understood allow you to bump off the targets without being detected and without leaving a trace.

Tenshu's more a traditional stealth 'em up where sneaking there to cut down the number of people you have to kill.

In Hitman, if you're taking a shotgun or a sub-machine gun on the mission with you then you're doing it wrong.

I see the distinction that you are trying to make but don't understand how you think it applies one way or another.

Tenchu is as much a puzzle game.  You have a level and there is a right way to do it and a wrong way.  If you just walk across from one target to the next and try to fight them all along the way you most likely won't survive and more to the point you aren't playing the game as intended.

The whole point of Tenchu - much like hitman is to get from A to D and avoid B & C along the way.  The only reason you ever really need to rely on your sword skills in Tenchu is because you've severely screwed up along the way.  Much like in hitman if you rely on your shotgun and your sub then you don't get the point of hitman.

My problem with Hitman is that the game doesn't flow very well.  Actually I'll even add in Syphon Filter and Splinter Cell to this conversation.  All these games basically have the same goal to figure out the stealthiest path that gets you into position to take out the primary target.

I think you're missing my point.

Tenshu, Syphon Filter and Splinter Cell essentially function as virtual worlds; the NPCs wander around doing stuff and you, using your skill-set have to pick your way through their world in order to accomplish your task.

Hitman, on the other hand, isn't about a realistic world.  It's a puzzle.  NPCs are all on different loops and your goal is to pick up on the loops, work out how they fit together and then exploit them.

In Syphon filter etc, if you're not stealthy, you die because you're not strong enough to kill that many people.  In Hitman you can tool up with s shotgun and body armour and systematically butcher everyone that looks at you funny, but if you do so you're missing the point of the game.

It's all about the purpose behind the design.

From the player's end there's no real difference because it's all sneaking and killing but Hitman is designed in a way unlike any other.  Even the likes of Thief struggles to come close to it in terms of purity of design.

I think your trying to see something that's not there.

In all those games you have an starting and and ending point the journey is what makes up the game.  In all of them there is a right and wrong way to it.  In all of them you can go on a madman run and try and fight your way from start to end but the odds are you'll die in the process because the mortality rate is high.

So to really play the game correctly you have to pick the right tools for the job, watch your opponents patterns, hide bodies and figure out the best path to take to get to the end.  Some levels will rail road you more then others and some games have much more fixed pathing then others.  But in the end they are all pretty much the same game.

you might be right but I do think that Hitman has a different aesthetic to all other games in its class.  That doesn't make it more or less interesting, or more or less playable (I always get fed up after the first 3 or 4 levels) but I think that Hitman does have a slightly different design ethic to other stealth games.

I agree Hitman is different from Tenchu and the rest in the same maner that they are all different from each other.  They all offer slight varriations on a similar theme and play style.  I mean Unreal and Quake are the same game - slight variations but the same game yet people prefer one over the other.
