This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

I'm a 360 guy myself. One of my buddies was asking himself this very question - I pushed him toward a 360, of course, but he ended up with a PS3. After having seen it, I do have to admit it's nice. Heavenly Sword, except for the main character's hair, is pretty awesome.

What the fuck is with that hair anyway?  That has to be the worst I've seen in a long ass time.

Yeah. And it's made all the more egregious by all the other cool textures and graphics. Why they didn't apply the same rigeur to the hair, I don't know.

I thought about the 360 or PS3 but like another poster, I stuck with the PC.  I heard stories about the rings of death with the 360 (360s can burn out and other hardware problems) and the sticker shock and lack of availabilitiy with PS3.
It is unbecoming for young men to utter maxims.

Disclaimer: I've worked as a writer/designer on some 360 games (such as Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter), and some PS3 games (most recently, SOCOM: Confrontation). But I've got both consoles, and even though I'm currently working for a Sony subsidiary, as a gamer, I try to be impartial.

The 360 had a nice head start, so there are lots of games to choose from, and plenty of lower-priced Greatest Hits titles as well. Whether you dig single-player, multiplayer adversarial, or co-op, you have many options. Xbox Live is easy to use and fun to play around with. There are some really great games on the system -- I'm currently enjoying Prey, Quake 4, Gears of War, Oblivion: Game of the Year Edition, and Orange Box.

The PS3 doesn't have as many games to choose from, but right now I'm playing The Darkness (horror-action FPS) Warhawk (flight combat), Resistance: Fall of Man (really enjoyable horror-war FPS), and Armored Core 4 (mech combat). I have Heavenly Sword, Lair, and Eye of Judgment, but haven't had a chance to play them yet. Upcoming PS3-exclusive games that I've heard good things about include Unreal Tournament 2007, Killzone 3, Devil May Cry 4, Gran Turismo 5 Prologue, Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, and SOCOM: Confrontation (which has amazing dialogue, or so I hear... :) ). I don't know much about PS3 online, but now that a buddy of mine has one, we're probably going to do a bunch of online gaming in the near future, so I may post my findings then, if you like.

I love my Wii, but I can't sit there and play a Wii game all night the way that I can play Prey or The Darkness for hours and hours. Zelda was okay, but I've been playing for a while and I still haven't seen much action. Mainly cute villagers. That I can't kill. Grumble...

99% of 360 games are rubbish. Though mainly because of the wankers who play online who should all be terminated.

Yeah, I tend to prefer co-op to adversarial. If it's me and a buddy taking on an army of AI-controlled monsters/robots/terrorists, I usually enjoy it a lot more than the online frag-fest. Although it depends on the game -- after all, Battlefield 1942 is absolutely amazing, and I've only played multiplayer adversarial.

It can also depend on your group. I have a small group of friends that I play with online, and I'm really looking forward to small adversarial matches with just the four of us doing two-on-two.

Looks like I'm a little late to this party.

I have all the current gen systems.  I presently own approximately 20 Xbox 360 disc games, 40 Xbox Live Arcade downloads, 1 PS3 disc game, and about 5 PS3 downloadable games.  That alone should tell you something.

Don't interpret that too far, though.  I've been a dedicated PS fanboy.  But I go where the variety in games is.  That variety is on the Xbox 360.
