This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Definitely. Have my own Chess set I designed and carved with my grandfather over one summer when I was a kid.

Honestly prefer Stratego though

I have a cheap one at work. My colleagues and I used to play for bragging rights. Sometimes I used it to study stuff when I was more serious about getting better.

I own several chess sets. The imagery and symbolism of the game fascinate me, but I'm a pretty terrible player.

At the moment, no. The one set I had I gave away to a niece.

I played in high school. My team won the Boston area championship one year. I was also my college's champion one year. Just too busy to keep up with it and was never good at memorizing all the different openings and plays. Gave it up and rarely played since.

Pretty much why I gave up on chess.  Once you get beyond "demolishing the family on holidays" level, chess seems to become all about memorizing openings and so on rather than about analyzing the board as it stands.  (I'm not saying that analysis disappears from the game, of course, just that it appears to be deemphasized.)  So I abandoned chess in favor of Avalon Hill and the like, where there are enough variables (and the randomness of dice!) that memorization isn't an option, even before getting into setting up custom/random scenarios, which is what I've always really loved the most.
