This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Is anyone playing this new RPG that came out recently? I have been poking around a few rpg forums but I can't seem to find any activity. I am new to RPing and am trying to get a skype group together to discuss the core book and get some games going.

Hmm, a "deep immersive" roleplaying game with a "cinematic narrative style with fluid fast-paced play."

What are you supposed to be deeply immersing into, I wonder?
Even the the "cutting edge" storygamers for all their talk of narrative, plot, and drama are fucking obsessed with the god damned rules they use. - Estar

Yes, Sean Connery\'s thumb does indeed do megadamage. - Spinachcat

Isuldur is a badass because he stopped Sauron with a broken sword, but Iluvatar is the badass because he stopped Sauron with a hobbit. -Malleus Arianorum

"Tangency Edition" D&D would have no classes or races, but 17 genders to choose from. -TristramEvans

Based on the title...proctology?

Sure... proctology...

He swallowed his pride and puckered his lips
And showed me the leather belt round his hips
My knees were shaking my cheeks aflame
He said "You'll never go down to the Gods again"
 (Turn around,go back!)

He struck the ground a cavern appeared
And I smelt the burning pit of fear
We crashed a thousand yards below
I said "Do it again, do it again"
 (Turn around,go back!)

The game world and your character I would suspect. It looks easy to get into and I really like what I've seen and read so far.

They have some play test sessions on yotube as well as a few breaksdowns of sections in the book on youtube. The creators name is Ander Wood his channel is Woodwwad.

It be nice to see more people checking it out so maybe I finally have some people to discuss it with.

With the pdf priced at $25, I suspect you'll be waiting awhile.

exiledtyrant

I wonder why so negative?

Special pdf bundles are being offered if you contact Ander or admins on the facebook group. I don't know the pricing  as I bought them full price from drive through to show my support.

For one, if you google "Within the Ring of Fire rpg" this very thread makes it to the front page of results.  Slightly higher is a TBP thread where the veracity and allegiance of the reviewers is rightly questioned.

Secondly, $25 for a pdf is a pretty steep price for a relatively unknown publisher trying to break in to the market.   It's the same price as RuneQuest 6 but without the lineage and established authors to back it up.

I just don't see a groundswell of support rising for the game.  I've been wrong in the past and will be wrong in the future - I feel pretty safe at the moment.  In any case, you got a free bump.

And you aren't the author/friend of the author/relative of the author?

It's awfully suspicious when someone who has never posted before starts pimping a RPG that no one has ever heard of...

Why dont you start by telling us something about it? What makes the game special? What sort of system does it use and why do you like it? Whats the design of the corebook like and what justifies the pricetag on the pdf?

Youre talking to a bunch of jaded veteran gamers here, many of whom are familiar with hundreds of systems and are skeptical about even the need for a new game. Enthusiasm is great, if it comes across with honesty, but why not try to get us to share your enthusiasm?

One Horse Town

I did find this hilarious piece of info on the game...

GM is a Flame Tender, PCs are Catalysts, and NPCs are Embers

Anyway, obvious shill is obvious. Moved to news & adverts.

I already stated that this is a very recent RPG. I'm pretty sure it it not even a month old yet. It would make sense that it doesn't have a lot of support yet that's why I am almost forced to hop around to different rpg forums to ask about it.The facebook group is a bit stagnant with its 700 or so members and every rpg  forum site I've googled doesn't have one within the ring of fire thread besides the ones I've made so far. A lot of the people who watch Anders channel and have the book already seem to have established groups and have been doing this just as long as he has.

I'm not sure with what all the suspicion is about. I am also not sure whats so bad about the price. I only own this games core book and pathfinder's but I am pretty sure I paid more for the pathfinder book when I got it. Ander Wood is a good guy and he probably deserves every penny for what he's put into the book. I can count the amount of times I have gone to his youtube channel to learn about the RPG hobby and just generally have a good time.

If I have an ulterior motive at all it's my evil plan to get people to actually play with me as I have been sitting on the pdf for a few days now but there's no place to go with it.  I swear it's the same thing when I tried to get into rpgs using Pathfinder. I ask around and people act like something's wrong with me. This is a "club" and you don't fit in it. I may have to chalk this up to as another waste of time and money as it is.

I think it's crazy that a "does anyone want to play thread" gets spun into who knows what. Maybe my other threads will attract people more concerned about the topic at hand. There's a great game out there and I'd like people to talk to about and and hopefully game with.

Why would I have to sell anyone on this game? I came here looking for players not to be a salesman. I could probably come hear and talk about dungeons and dragons whatever and it wouldn't mean a damn thing to anyone but because I am trying to find people for an Indie game I have to read off the corebook to you?

I'll tell you what here's a like to the how to play it gives a basic overview an of what the games supposed to be like. They also have 4 hour play test on there.

It's probably not a good idea to name your game after one of the most famous songs of all time.

Anyway, I watched a playtest video, I think it was called Official Playtest 1. Not sure who was in it but the DM was a guy who made a video trying to claim that D&D had nothing to do with Chainmail (for what reason I didn't get). Anyway, that guy bothered me. He kept displaying dismissive body language, leaning back in his chair staring at the ceiling, turning away from the camera, pausing for long periods for no reason. I felt sorry for the players who seemed to be trying hard to pay attention. Then, during a combat, the DM is asking the players, "do you have such and such a skill." At that point I turned it off. Seriously, you've got two players who are both new to the game and you don't even bother to have copies of their character sheets to help them through the game!

The game might be good but they need to take those playtest videos down and make proper ones.
