Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). Is Firefox 3 better than Opera 9.5?

Cause right now, I'm willing to be convinced. I'm quite happy with Opera, but I am curious what the Firefox fans think of the shiny new version out.

I don't like the new default theme in Firefox 3.  In fact I really dislike it.  FF2 has a light grey theme.  FF3 has a dark grey theme and it makes things like icons from all the extensions and favicons look bad.

Anyone have a good FF3 theme to recommend?

I'll wait a while before upgrading from 2 to 3 in Firefox. I want to see if the new version has lost that annoying Firefox habit of losing all your bookmarks.

Off-topic - it's easy to get them back.

Use the Run prompt and type

firefox.exe /profilemanager

Choose the correct profile and you're set.

And yes, FF3 fixes it. :)

I think FF3 whoops it hands down.  Adblock Plus alone is reason enough to switch.  As is the new address bar.  That thing is fuckin' sweet.  It's actually fucking useful.

I stopped using Opera sometime back when one of the patches rather borked the stability.

Right now, Mac side, I'm on Camino, but I'm debating switching bag.  Camino's so nice and light and quick that it's hard to go back to FF3, better featureset or no.  windows wise though, it's all FF3.

Though I agree the FF3 default theme is ass.  And the new Back button sucks.  But both can be fixed by just getting a better theme.  I usually wind up always switching to a Tango theme on Windows anyway, and in OS X, I always go for something more integrated with the Apple look.

As a long time Opera user, I considered switching to FF3. The core may well be as fast as Opera (finally) but the extensions are all slow to execute and bring FF down. So it's back to Opera. Still the cleanest and fastest browser experience out there, and I don't have to hunt for a million extensions.

Long version: Never. ;)

Upgraded to FF3.  Love it to death; a true upgrade.

Nope. On every computer I installed FF3 on the bookmarks remained. You can also back your bookmarks up and import them in case something does happen.

I have both installed and

Short answer: Yes

Long answer I think the ability to customize Firefox with so many useful Add-ons is probably the main difference between the two (at least for me). Opera is still lightyears ahead of IE, but still has some catching up to do in the customizing area.

I D/L and am trying out both for now. I'm still leaning on Opera, mainly because I don't seem to need FF3's many addons, as nice as they are. Opera still has what I need in tidy pakage.

But we'll see what happens in the long run.

What I really use daily is Opera synchronization (between computer at work and at home...) so basically I bookmark something at work and when I come home I have it. I really love this feature.

I use opera for RSS/mail so it si running all the time. And I use it as browser with heavy use of wand of course.

I don't feel need for Firefox add-ons.
