This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Charity moment, NOT political.....

Started this thread from last year:

My last two posts in that thread were these two :

QuoteUPDATE: okay ...for those of you curious.....

I know of TWO people that donated to DOCTORS WITHOUT BORDERS.

One person sent me a check for the Wounded Warrior Project.

A few folks said they gave to their local Marines unit to help out the TOYS-FOR-TOTS program

I think a gamer in the United Kingdom said he gave to the similiar program for kids over there.

This past Friday I got a package in the mail from Texas. The Men In Black of Steve Jackson Games got together and put some games in a box.
This afternoon I am handing off that box o' stuff to a U.S. MARINE for use in their TOYS-FOR TOTS toy drive.

further update:

Received a nice letter from the headquarters of the US Marines TOYS FOR TOTS foundation in Washington DC. Someone pledged money to them in the name of the "Klingon Santa".

It was a well written touching letter from a Retired Major - took me by surprise in a good way.

So......to answer Pundit's question up in the RPG section. Did I vote while wearing Klingon Garb? - YES, I did.
However I don't do that normally.

This year last month I went to the polls in a regular old jacket and tie.

I only did the outfit last year because people said they would donate to charity - and they DID!

So, my best estimate is that maybe between 500 to 1,000 dollars or the equivalent * got donated to various charities because I did that.  I wish MORE people were willing to do something that seems a tad geeky or maybe embarassing - if so many others wind up benefitting during the Holiday season.

I did something out of the norm for me so that others might have a better holiday.

Thats the real meaning and context behind the pics in my signature link.

* I say the equivalent because there were people in the U.K., and Europe that said they donated to charity because I did that and I don't know the Euro or British Pound exchange rate for a year ago. Also the toys and games donated to TOYS -FOR-TOTS are difficult to estimate in dollar cost.

You are spinning really hard here Ed. IIRC, you originally broadcast that you were going to vote in Klingon drag as an effort to "Get Out The Vote". That someone egged you on by claiming to donate for charity if you did your Klingon cosplayer routine came after the fact.

It doesn't help that the link to to the SJG forum "evidence" has this message.

You still are a hardcore trekkie and participate in Klingon cosplay.
"Meh."
