Turns out the next STAR WARS major project may be more like SOPRANOS in the Star Wars universe:
QuoteLucas Working on Sci-Fi Gangster Series
George Lucas is working on a new live-action Star Wars series for television that is being described as Deadwood meets The Sopranos in outer space, the New York Post reported today (Monday), citing a report that appeared on the sci-fi website collider.com. Lucas's primary Star Wars characters, including Luke Skywalker, Han Solo and Darth Vader, will not appear in the series, the newspaper said. The Post said that Lucas has held talks with HBO about carrying the series and has also approached at least one broadcast network, but he has yet to make a deal. The newspaper did not explain the reasons for the broadcast and cable networks' reluctance, especially since the Star Wars movies represent the most successful film franchise in history. Lucas is also working on an animated TV series, The Clone Wars, which is also based on the Star Wars tales.

Well, if there are are people who enjoy it, rock on I guess, but I doubt it will hold any interest for me.
Works for me. My players are almost always Fringe characters with a few Rebs or ex-Imps thrown into the mix, so it'll be a nice changeup.

My monkeys? He can have the little poop-flingers. He really ought to stop wringing the spit out of the
Star Wars property, though.

I still haven't bothered watching Jar Jar III. I doubt I'll watch this either.

How wude!
So it's being "described as" Deadwood meets The Sopranos. Who by? My guess is an over enthusiastic journalist who wants to grab a bit of attention by putting a new spin on old news.
In a few months it'll probably be "described as" Rome meets Tom & Jerry. Or D&D meets Barack Obama. Or The Wedding Singer meets 8 Mile.

Oh, I imagine there will be Jedi. I see a failed Jedi turning to a life of crime, or perhaps a Jedi in hiding protecting the people. I don't think you can get away from the Force when you do Star Wars.

Star Wars without Jedi RULES.
Hm... I'm thinking he's taking inspiration from Firefly.
Or maybe I just want him to take inspiration from Firefly. I'd love to see a Star Wars/Firefly love child... provided it's not an inbred, retarded love child, that does little more than shit itself and drool.
But given that it's Lucas pulling the puppet strings here, perhaps I wish too much...
I know that Lucas has been in talks with the kid who played the young Boba Fett to continue the role. From the sound of things, they're still planning to make Boba Fett a major character.
Which is awesome.
It'd be hard to have many Jedi in the series, as the show will be set in the twenty years between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope. And at the start of A New Hope, there should only be a few Jedi still alive (Obi-Wan, Yoda, and very few others).
But they can easily have one or two Jedi in the series (Aayla Secura!!! No one saw the body!!!) so long as they die before A New Hope.
