This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Why Did You Pick Your Avatar?

Thanks. :)

I used to work with a lot of webcomic artists, and they set the bar pretty high for quality of artwork -- I always feel I've got to keep pushing myself to bring it up a notch.

I'm always asking my buddy Nate Piekos for tips.  I think folk here will dig his stuff -- it's D&D inspired Fantasy.

I'm at comic #7 and still readin', so...yeah.

I recently picked up a cartooning book called "Action! Cartooning" by Ben Caldwell, and having a lot of fun with it.  Seeing your buddy Nate's art, and how it's similar, is really of interest to me right now*.  Thanks for the link!

At first I didn't care for the Go Play movement that started at RPG.net, but the more I thought about it and the more I paid attention to folk discussing games they've never played and generally talking about RPGs without playing them I realized it was something that strongly resonated with me.

The awesome Thomas T was making avatars and giving them away, so I picked up one of the unclaimed ones.  A Superman shield made me think of, well, Superman.  Specifically in his role as championing a cause.  I found that inspiring, and so immediately snagged the avatar.

Since then I've taken on the goal of teaching people as many different games as I reasonably can, and my gaming has notably improved because of it.

Why Treize?  Because he's the character in Gundam Wing that wins; he is the true hero of that story.

My current one ...this evening (Wednesday night June 27th, 2007)  was taken this past sunday during my regular GURPS:TRAVELLER game. That thing behind me is the deckplan of the ship.

I tend to like actual pictures of myself as my avatars - its an honesty thing. If I'm going to maybe argue with someone , or hold a position about something - prefer its my face doing the talking.

My old avatar was a picture of me. But that gave some people nightmares so I used one of my drawings instead. This one was just simple enough to shrink down well. And it fits 'cause I'm a relative youngster on this board.

Now that I think of it, it might be about time to change the "ugly" bit to suit the new pic.

I'd feel odd using a picture of or a drawing by someone else than me... not sure why. Unless it was animated. I can't animate yet, so that's okay.

Pseudoephedrine

I use an old picture of me. I posted to RPG.net for years, but no one seemed to remember me because I didn't have an avatar. This is one of two or three pictures of myself that I have that are about the right size because I shrank them for my livejournal.

I think I'm going to change it to one of the others and see how that goes.

Interesting...I can't even tell what your avatar is, Anemone - much less that you're female...

I have, however, uttered the phrase "snick, snack, snicker, snack," to my children...

EDIT: Oh yeah...and mines Feanor's star..and I was formerly Feanor...didn't I already answer this?  Damn necroing...
