This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

...but you may find the current kefluffle over the artistic choices in MK 11 interesting or entertaining.

An associate 'explained' that situation to me this way:

Quote from: Irate acquaintance
It is, without opening this can of worms further, the usual suspects of the internet's midden heap venting their anger at the fact that the female characters of the game now have base outfits that look like practical wear for someone who punches people in the face as the sum totality of their existence, rather than eye candy.

So just another tempest in a teapot over some cgi female skin showing or not showing?

I'm an old school Mortal Kombat fan. And I am giving MK 11 a pass. The fact it contains microtransactions is an utter turn-off for me.

microtransaction? =

Additional in game items sold for money. It's a way of withholding in game content that should have been a part of the base game. While the company tries to nickle and dime the customers for further profit.

When I bought Mortal Kombat 9, they finally came out with an edition that had all of the in game content and DLC on one disc. That I was fine with. I felt well justified in buying that version of the game.

But Mortal Kombat 11 has literally thousands of dollars in microtransactions. And that doesn't even count the season pass or buying the DLC individually.

It's a cash grab. Pure and simple. And I don't want to reward any game company that treats their customers that way.

Yeah, I hate it when businesses in a capitalist society try to profit too, its just so unfair when they make me spend my money on stuff.

We don't live in an unrestrained capitalist society. Businesses have to play by the rules. Or not exist at all. And they most certainly are required to treat their customers fairly.

Microtransactions are the definition of exploitation. Bad business practices.

I don't have a problem with the CONCEPT of microtransactions.

My problem is when the base game is effectively crippleware.

If the base game is awesome and I want to buy DLC expansions, I'm good with that.

If I'm forced to spend more money to get value from my base purchase, that's definitely bad business.

Hopefully this will be the end of the microtransactions issue.
