Every year I try and watch a movie on Halloween - by myself - with the lights off. Last year I watched The Resurrected (90's Dan O'Bannon directed, Lovecraft's The Case Of Charles Dexter Ward - as if written as a CoC script: https://youtu.be/UzsEYPZt1Ts ) with my ex-gf. This year, I plan on watching 1972's The Legend Of Hell House (Richard Matheson (of Twilight Zone fame) film with Roddy McDowall : https://youtu.be/5JigzXA1jzU )
Anyone have similar plans? If so, whatcha gonna watch? I may just change my mind... :)
I've been doing a 31 days of horror for the last 4 years now. A different horror movie every night. On Halloween I always watch Trick 'r Treat. It's a horror anthology (5 different stories all woven together) and a pretty fun time.
Since Halloween is on a Saturday this year I'm also doing a marathon with some friends. We're going Asian zombie and watching I Am a Hero, Train to Busan and #Alive.
There are alot of interesting older horror movies out there. More if you branch out into the european or asian ones.
I tend to avoid the gore-oriented ones though.
Full Moon did some good ones for a while. Quite a few Lovecraft based ones. But really hated Dagon and some of the later ones were just not as good really as their early works.
If you havent seen them check out From Beyond and Reanimator. Way over the top for my liking, but well done! Or the first two Puppet Master movies.
From Japan two I liked were
Goke: Body Snatcher from Hell/Vampire Gokemidoro from 68, is an odd one. Part alien invasion, part vampire, part survival. This one used to get mentioned in monster movie books. Even one from my school!
and Matango/Attack of the Mushroom People from 63 which is based on a short story by William H Hodgson from 1907

She wasn't that kind of ex. We were very amiable with an extremely long history (we first met in '78 at a roller disco). Unfortunately she died last Thanksgiving. She was a huge Zombie/Walking Dead fan.

I don't shy away and I really enjoyed Audition. I have seen Attack of the Mushroom People but not since the old Creature Double Feature days out in Boston. Gotta see the others you mentioned though - Japan's got good stuff (not into the K-Horror stuff though...). I can recommend some Italian Horror. One of my faves is Deep Red (Profundo Rosso) and Suspiria from Dario Argento.

AH! Train to Busan! Yes!! Also, Trick 'r Treat is really good, I liked VHS as well. But, I really miss the old Amicus films like the original Asylum and Tales From The Crypt. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amicus_Productions

I don't really have any Halloween movie plans this year. I plan to pick up Disney+ for the new season of The Mandalorian, and so I'll probably just be watching other stuff from there.
If it wasn't for that, I'd probably try to watch one of the classic Universal monster movies. I haven't seen
The Wolf Man yet. I was surprised how well
Creature From the Black Lagoon held up.
You know, speaking of Tales from the Crypt, I'm surprised that HBO hasn't given it another go recently.
I make a point of watching horror movies all October and on Halloween I like to stay in and watch stuff related to Halloween.
This year I have been doing discussions all month on my podcast. Started with Fright Night, then Bride of Frankenstein, followed by The Howling, then Night of the Living Dead. Will be doing Poltergeist, House on Haunted Hill, Dracula (1992) then Halloween.

The wolf man is great (in my opinion at least). Great cast too Bela Lugosi, Lon Cheney Jr. and Claude Rains. I have not seen the Creature from the Black Lagoon in ages but remember adoring it as a kid.
My wife's favorite Halloween movie is "Psycho."
We will be watching it this weekend as we always do around this time o' year. I highly recommend it to anyone who hasn't dabbled in Hitchcock's catalogue or is a fan of the "Suspense" genre.

They do a really good job of building suspense, and they don't show too much of the monster too soon. And when the big reveal arrives, it is pretty spectacular. The creature suit looks great swimming underwater, particularly since they had a world-class swimmer doing the action.
Julie Adams is also pretty great in the role of the lady in peril.
Speaking of Train to Busan, it looks like the movie has a prequel called Seoul Station. It's animated and explores a different part of the outbreak, but the reviews seem pretty solid.

I took the kids out to shake down our neighbors for candy Saturday evening, because why not. I have one neighbor who is a really big Halloween guy - dude sets up an animatronic pirate band, all the bots from Mystery Science Theater 3000, a ton of other cool shit. This year he had to do it a little different. So he had an animatronic Cryptkeeper with a personalized message from fucking John Kassir.
I marked out hard. Because that made my damn day.
