What do you think of these 'inappropriate' comic book storyline?

To tell the truth, I was underwhelmed. Most of them just seemed like pearl clutching over stories and characters that weren't aimed at 11 yr olds. Some where just silly or bad but none of them was 'offensive', IMO.

I haven't read most of the comics mentioned in those videos but I thought the inclusion of the two Alan Moore works (League of Extraordinary Gentlemen Vol. 2 and The Killing Joke) was rather unfair, IMHO. Both of those stories have graphic and disturbing moments, yes, but they take place in the context of smart stories and have a point beyond shock value.

I'm surprised they didn't include Identity Crisis (The beginning of DC taking "Dark and gritty" to the point of farce, and a story that used rape in the dumbest and most tone-deaf way possible) or that Ultimates storyline where half the Marvel heroes ingloriously drowned in a tidal wave and the Blob straight up motherfucking ATE the Wasp (I'm probably making it sound like apocalyptic bad-taste fun. It wasn't.).

I couldn't make it through half the pearl clutching. Definitely a "comics are for kids" angle that hasn't flown since at least the 70s in books outside DC and Marvel, and abandoned by the big two in the 80s. But I do agree there should be easy identifiers on the comics for idiot parents so they don't crap themselves when Little Timmy's favorite has Rated R storylines.

I thought Blob eating the Wasp was perfect. Someone was going to do it.

Those are part of a whole class of Internet "news" stories that I call "I have a deadline and nothing to say."
You should go to GaryCon.  Period.

In the interest of not being too much of a hypocrite, some of those story lines sound like scenarios that have come up in my supers RP sesssion either scripted or due to player interest/actions. Some of the others I've haen't read (like 'Trouble') sound like they might have been interesting if well written and portrayed though perhaps they weren't.

Overall, the video felt like a lot of pearl clutching over nothing much. Bad comics happen, comics aren't just written for 10 yr olds anymore, superhuman do have genitals, etc, etc, deal with it, guys. If you don't like that kind of material there's allot of more purely action adventure books out there. Some company's have imprints just for that or there's reprints of the classics,

Pretty sure Hank Pym beat him to it.
