This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

War Breaks Out Between Hackers and Scientology

I get the joke and you're correct, but I used to live in Seattle on the corner of 3rd & Bell and the Scientology Center was located right across the intersection - those cultists just plain scare me.

Being the sort who likes to poke at scary things with a stick, I went in there once to check it out. They gave me a psychological profile test which they then reduced to a bar graph to show where in my life I wanted improvement (and let's face it, only one with an unexamined life doesn't think that some area needs improvement). The Scientology handler then told me how the lowest part of the bar graph indicated that I was doomed to a life of emotional turmoil and my ownly hope was to get some help through Scientology, at $100 per visit.

Then followed a long series of haggling because I let them know that I had no money and the price for the "help" kept dropping to become more affordable. Finally, just to get out of the creepy interview, I agreed to buy a copy of Dianetics and was able to leave.

The book went directly into the trash.

I truly loathe con artists who use religion or psychology to seperate people from their money.

I have a funny story about a Spanish-language tour of the L. Ron Hu-- I'm sorry, the El-lay Rrrrronn HHHO-bar' museum on Hollywood Boulevard, but, uh...it's funnier if I tell it than type it.

Yeah, I've been hearing all about this.  I never thought I'd cheer on anything by 4channers, but Scientology is fucking scary shit, and anybody making a serious effort at hindering or even destroying these evil fucks deserves at least a good cheer from the sidelines.

A friend of mine went in for his "free evaluation" at the Church in Toronto, and used the classic "can I use your bathroom" line.  Of course that meant "can I sneak around upstairs and look at your sci-fi gadget/toys?

Of course you realize that there are some great adventure seeds for a modern game in a set-up like that. ;)

Oh, wait.  This is the Off Topic forum...

Internet Wakes Up
By Anonymous Press

Jan. 24th, 2008| When Chanology was started, a conglomerated and willful attempt to unite various internet faction in a bid of digital warfare against the Scientology Church, the internet was reputed to wake up.

Long-thought to be a semi-sentient ur-thing, the internet trembled and shambled to full blown sentience reputedly craving Moar and something called a "desu". It also made several half-formed attempts to warn of sexually transmitted diseases in swimming locations world-wide.

Thats not a surprise.

Hubbard and ASTOUNDING's then-editor John W. Campbell were friends for years. Campbell was one of the first to read the original Dianetics book. He and L. Ron later had a falling out and stopped talking.

Great find, John Morrow.  That image is appropriately threatening.

I keep getting Encyclopedia Dramatica redirecting to Zwinky.  Methinks a counter-hack is in the offing, and some group called "The Directive" who may or may not be pawns of Scientology are counterattacking *chan sites and those linked to *chan.
