This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

The internet, dude.
God in the Machine.

Here's my website. It's defunct, but there's gaming stuff on it. Much of it's missing. Sorry.

I've got a blog. Do you read other people's blogs? I dunno. You can say hi if you want, though, I don't mind company. It's not all gaming, though; you run the risk of running into my RL shit.

Could someone PM me a link to what he's talking about ?

The snowstorm here knocked out our cable for a bit - I could use a small does of entertainment.  (Tho, I did see the whammy moment at the end of "LOST" tonight)

Perhaps you've misunderstood my true motives all along then!

I don't think so, Professor. In any case, perhaps it's me who should be gloating. I see a wee bit of reinventing the wheel happening roundabout.

You don't see it because you've never been more of a fad consumer. Which I'm sorry about that, but there it is.

Well, not a grievous insult.

Here's what I'm saying:

Being a fan of roleplaying games is one thing. Thats all of us. This type of person participates in roleplaying fandom (like these online hangouts) because he games. Thats a fan. Often this itself is derogatory. The crime of honestly liking something enough to follow the developments and enjoy it used to be the height of gauche behavior. FAAANBOYSSS!!!!!

Heh. I am pretty much one of those guys. I'm as gauche as they come.

Being involved only with of a certain specific kind of roleplaying games because buying in and pledging allegiance gives you a special sense of belonging to an exclusive "movement"  is like.. an entirely different thing. This person is involved in gaming as an excuse to be involved in the online communities. That's a fad consumer. Fad consumers always think they are cooler than fans (or "fanboys").

But the wonderful irony is, every year, fad consumers have to wonder what the fuck they are doing stil hanging about in a hobby they no longer truly enjoy. This usually happens approximately 3-4 days after every convention. The pattern every year is 1) glowing convention report, 2)then... silence, 3) sudden despair, self-examination,  and self-loathing.

It's been going on for a few years, and I always get a kick out of it!

Well, I don't think I'm a fad consumer, but feel free. But the grammar still confuses me. Am I supposed never to have been a fad consumer, or to have been a fad consumer becoming ever more faddish?

It must be tough for you, David. To always wants to jump in and get all snarky and stuff, yet not actually be involved.

And your snarky skills are lacking...

Not tough at all AM. And what snark, it was an honest question.

Does being involved mean stalking sites and finding things to be insulted at ?

By 'stalking' do you mean "reading stuff posted publicly on the internet"? And by "insulted" do you mean "amused and pleased that these fucks are now saying the things to each other what I was saying 3 years ago"?

That was the hysterical accusation of last year. I got a kick out of that, especially because I knew some of these same guys were going way out of their way to follow everything I was saying.  The swarm defenders, after all, must know where to swarm. Anyhow, it's a weak defense. The insinuation of course is that there is something sinister or violent or threatening going on, but that's 1) obviously not the case, and 2) a desperation defense put forward by weaklings who simply don't feel like they should be accountable for things they say.

When people are actively insulting and degrading my hobby and culture, I want to do something about it. Now obviously we can't simply drive the merchants out of the temple. But anytime these guys self-assess and see how dishonest they are and wonder whether they should still be doing the fucked up and mediocre things they are doing? I take it as a positive sign. I rejoice.

Is that wrong?

Wrong ?

These people have no real influence on the hobby. Most gamers have never heard of them except when folks like you bring them up. Most of the stuff is online BS

So is it wrong.... it's probably kind of creepy. Kind of pathetic. Kind of silly.

Reading things posted on the internet in public places is that disturbing to you? So who has the right to read what? and who dispenses that right? Are you creepy and pathetic and silly for responding to me? You seem to read everything I write.

I'm ok with that!
