This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Janitor is a roleplayer . . .

One of the principal gags on tonight's Scrubs, was that Janitor's LotR roleplaying group kicked him out for bringing a real warhammer to the game, so he gets his roleplaying fix by pretending to be the chief of medicine while Kelso is out of town.

Awesome!  I Tivoed that last night and will watch it tonight (Survivor and My Name is Earl took precedence last night).

Frikkin' love Scrubs.  The best-written comedy in years.

I was using the computer and watching the show at the same time when this gag happened, and I did a double take. I like light hearted pokes at gaming from writers that seem to actually be in the know.

That stupid Alltel commercial with the "Dungeon Masters don't have levels...dork" gag is another story. I could be wrong about the level of hostility intended in the ad, but it strikes me as mean spirited.

The Mosaic Oracle is on sale now. It\'s a raw, open-sourced game design Toolk/Kit based on Lurianic Kabbalah and Lambda Calculus that uses English key words to build statements. If you can tell stories, you can make it work. It fits on one page. Wait for future games if you want something basic; an implementation called Wonders and Worldlings is coming soon.

I always enjoy a good gamer gag, and don't really care if it plays to stereotypes. The fact that roleplaying still makes it into maistream media could even be seen as a symptom of a healthy, vibrant hobby.

For those who haven't caught it yet my personal favourite is Fear of Girls:

BTW, anyone ever played Prison of the B'thuvian Demon Whore? (hmm, I didn't need to look this up. Male brain functions at work)

I play it every day. It's called marriage.

No, but I'd like to. It sounds like it'd go perfectly with plenty of beer and a group who knew where it originated.

I keep wondering if a class action lawsuit could be filed against Alltel over that commercial...
"Meh."

What the hell are you complaining about - that Alltell commercial is funny as hell, cracks me up every time I see it.

A couple of points.

  • You all know that guy.
  • If you had TiVo and paused it after the question ("what level DM?") but before the answer, how many of you would have said the same thing?
C'mon...raise your hands...you know you would. I did. The first time I watched that add I was already answering the same way as the "geek" as it came out of his mouth.

You're a gamer.  Be proud of it. That includes being able to take the jokes.

Do you all protest whenever a blonde is shown as dumb? Or a Jock?
