This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

There's a swine in every hobby?

I think the urge to swine is near universal, and in all of us.

So the goal is to be self aware enough to know when you are doing it, and if it is worth continuing.
Hither came Conan, the Cimmerian, black-haired, sullen-eyed, sword in hand, a thief, a reaver, a slayer, with gigantic melancholies and gigantic mirth, to tread the jeweled thrones of the Earth under his sandalled feet.

Having read Boardgamegeek for a while, I've definitely noted the swineishness.  Risk and Monopoly are regularly attacked as the worst games ever created.  And every once in a while you'll see someone who makes a comment like "[Risk] is the kind of game that puts people off boardgames forever."

It may be true, but it's not universally true.  I'd have no inclination to play wargames if not for those bygone games of Risk when I was a child.  I still love a good game of Risk.  The main obstacle is lack of players.

And yes, I agree that the supporters of the Nintendo DS and Wii and damn near the entirety of the videogame press are the videogame equivalent of swine.

Er, what? Whatever.
God in the Machine.

Here's my website. It's defunct, but there's gaming stuff on it. Much of it's missing. Sorry.

I've got a blog. Do you read other people's blogs? I dunno. You can say hi if you want, though, I don't mind company. It's not all gaming, though; you run the risk of running into my RL shit.

Yeah, I've been lurking at BGG for two years or so, and there's definitely a lot of that.  But (with rare exceptions like the original post I linked to) they tend to be less annoying than RPG swine.  You don't get "boardgaming agenda" bullshit and endless theories that have no connection to reality or actual research.

Maybe it's because the vast majority of them actually play the games they're talking about?
For fuck\'s sake, these are games, people.

And no one gives a fuck about your ignore list.
