SPECIAL NOTICE
Malicious code was found on the site, which has been removed, but would have been able to access files and the database, revealing email addresses, posts, and encoded passwords (which would need to be decoded). However, there is no direct evidence that any such activity occurred. REGARDLESS, BE SURE TO CHANGE YOUR PASSWORDS. And as is good practice, remember to never use the same password on more than one site. While performing housekeeping, we also decided to upgrade the forums.
This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Quote from: jgantsSorry, but correlation still != causation.

My hypothesis: Diebold machines are more likely to be installed in richer precincts than poorer ones.  Hillary probably has more appeal among the wealthy Democrats than the poor ones.  Therefore, precincts with Diebold machines are more likely to vote for Hillary.

That's an interesting theory; however, the results seemed to show that more affluent women in New Hampshire ended up voting more for Obama, whereas it was women in the lower income brackets that ended up voting for Hillary.

I think simply looking at statistics can't prove deliberate vote-tampering - only looking at the actual software and physically examining the machines can prove that. It could be that the Diebold machines have an influence, but not a deliberate one: the experience of voting electronically may be tangibly different from casting a paper ballot, and thus have a subtle and not entirely predictable psychological effect on people who may not have decided precisely who they were going to vote for when they went to cast their ballot. Writing an "X" on a piece of paper may inspire a certain amount of thoughtfulness - it's like signing a contract, or taking a multiple choice test in school - whereas casting a vote electronically may feel more relaxed, like taking money out of an ATM machine or something. It could be that swing voters tended to vote for Obama if they took the time to stare at a blank ballot paper and consider where to put their "X", whereas presented with a list of names on a screen they tended to push the one for "Clinton".
I am no longer posting here or reading this forum because Pundit has regularly claimed credit for keeping this community active. I am sick of his bullshit for reasons I explain here and I don\'t want to contribute to anything he considers to be a personal success on his part.

I recommend The RPG Pub as a friendly place where RPGs can be discussed and where the guiding principles of moderation are "be kind to each other" and "no politics". It\'s pretty chill so far.

Ok, as we are closing out here, its time for the predictions to be made:

What do each of you think: will there be a US-Iranian war next year?

There will not be an invasion or occupation; the US has been burned once by that, and with Donald Rumsfeld gone there's less voices loudly supporting the idea that a high-tech low-personnel army can handle an occupation. There might be some sort of air war to take out the Iranian nuclear infrastructure, but I find that highly unlikely; there isn't the political will to back it up, and the CIA's latest report has left the "OMG Iranian nukes!" line in tatters.

If anything, Bush currently seems to be trying to get Israel and/or the various Sunni nations of the Middle East to deal with Iran instead.

Smartass answer: Only if a Republican is elected...  :D

Real answer: I doubt it.  Bush MIGHT try and force one this year (he's doing his best to use the speedboat thing as the 2008 model of the Gulf of Tonkin), but it's obvious to everyone else that our forces are already stretched too thin, and that more people are worried about the economy than Iran.
Now Prepping: One-shot adventures for Coriolis, RuneQuest (classic), Numenera, 7th Sea 2nd edition, and Adventures in Middle-Earth.

Recently Ended: Palladium Fantasy - Warlords of the Wastelands: A fantasy campaign beginning in the Baalgor Wastelands, where characters emerge from the oppressive kingdom of the giants. Read about it here.

No, but it'll be fun to watch the leftwingnuts keep hoping for one.

Now I'm wondering which one of those I'm meant to be...
