This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Quote from: Dumarest;1019322You mean like how the Marvel movies have brought comic book sales back into the millions? How many times do you guys need to be proven wrong about this stuff?

Pundit's counter-factual claims aside comic sales have been on the rise since 2011/2012. One relatively mediocre year in sales (still far better than sales during the recession) is not proof of anything. 'Graphic novels' continue to be a bigger and bigger part of the market as Direct Sales, which was always a niche that catered to adults instead of kids, is where there is a lack of growth. Since Marvel and DC are too busy catering to this shrinking market kids are reading comics (like Amulet or Bone) just not superhero comics. That's all been proven in the other thread, we can continue to discuss it there if anyone has actual evidence beyond their 'gut' to refute them.

We've seen an influx of new and returning players thanks to 5e, the popularity of board games and actual play streaming but a successful mainstream film would have no impact? Streaming has to be a niche of a niche yet it is having a significant impact, I can't see how a successful film wouldn't have more of an impact.

Of course the film would have to be successful, whether they can pull that off is the real question. Whether it will be good or not is another question, shitty movies are successful all the time.
