This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

I used to get legit Japanese soundtrack CDs at anime cons. It's nice to have all the original soundtrack CDs for Cowboy Bebop. My avatar is from one of those CDs.

(And, yes, SM CDs were bootlegs. I got that info straight from the Japanese embassy when I was working for OTAKON.)

They WERE NICE bootlegs though. But even in the '90s we could figure out they were fake. Just the prices and when you had a few original Jap releases to compare to you pretty quickly figured the SMs had inferior sleeve printing.

I got legit Jap CDs through my local record store at approx AUD$70 a pop circa 1995. That was insane money then. But then again, regular CDs were $30 in Australia then too.
Motoko Kusanagi is Deunan Knute for basic queers

We had a bootlegging store in Boston Chinatown (it might still be around, last time I was there was about ten years ago I think) that used to have rolling paper business cards. The vibe was pretty cool there lol

Most of the bootlegs I have seen haven't been very good. But then even some of the officially released DVDs and VHSs haven't been great either. There are even some up on amazon streaming that I would swear are bootleg copies I have seen before

A few years ago there was actually a big issue with amazon merchants. For a while if you saw like Wing Chun for sale, you'd get a legit copy. But I had to order like three in a row once because I just kept getting bootlegs with the really bad coloration and distortion (and it wasn't out of region or anything it was just one of those shitty bootleg companies like Bonzai). I think bootlegs serve a function. But it was pretty surprising to me that I was thinking I was getting a legit copy of a DVD and ended up with a bootleg instead

I was paying $35-40 USD at around that time for legit CDs in the US.

SM CDs were $20, but were bootlegs. However, you could find some things on SM that were out of print as legit CDs.

There was a brief span of time in the late 90s to early 2000s when companies made an attempt to produce US versions of anime CDs, but I believe that ended with the anime crash of the mid-2000s. I'm pretty sure I have an American release of one of the FLCL soundtracks, though.

I saw Thunderbolts* and, well, there's not too much to say. It wasn't great. It wasn't terrible. It was pretty bland really. I think Bob/Sentry and Yelena get way more time than the rest of the characters combined. Barnes was damn near a background character for the most part, but John Walker/USAgent at least got a few chances to shine (without shying away from the fact that he is an asshole).

Did you see anything in this movie to warrant the $180 million budget? It didn't have any big name stars (and I'd argue the Florence Pugh is an anti-star). I've also heard that it only had a few locations as well.

It should end up with a $400 box office which would be a big hit if the budget was half of what they spent.

I can't really answer that as I have no idea how the budget of a movie gets spent (or how it should be spent). I can only say that I found it neither awesome nor terrible.

Yet more bland washed out colorless trash from Marvel/Disney. Its Thunderbolts in name only. It does not have a single character from the original series who were all actual criminals trying or pretending to go straight with new secret identities.
