This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

As an aside if I get enough users to agree with me that Someone here is a problem, can we then lobby for topics to be closed and locked? because that seems what this is leading to.

If said someone hasn't been on the site in months and people keep necro-ing old threads about him? Yeah, probably.

Shame on you then. I don't frequent the site as often as others do, but part of what draws me back and keeps me interested in reading threads here, which I do more than post, is that there is supposed to be no fear of just that happening.

I had a lot more respect for you before you said this, and while losing that may mean little to you, it is significant to me. You've lost some ground in my book by your actions.

Oh, and is there a time limit on a thread? I can't come back to something two years from because it interests me or is relevant to the experience I am having at that moment?

How narrow of a view would that be?

Try posting in the roleplaying section of the forums for a change, Paul, and then maybe your opinion of people on a roleplaying discussion site might matter to them.

This whole "necro" idea in general has always seemed silly to me.
If its close to a YEAR old - then yeah maybe its a necro.  I swear every forum seems to have a different weakly-understood span of time that qualifies for being labelled as a "necro" .

Over on the Big Purple it seems to be more than 5 days is a "necro".

on SJG forums ..more than a year seems like a "necro".

 Here ? I don't know ?

You're seriously exaggerating the significance of this, dude. I'm not banning anything or anyone, or even censoring anything: All I did was close a thread who's only purpose as it stood would be to risk bringing up an issue/person that Off-Topic is only now finally recovering from the spectacle of.

Well, we're mostly from RPG.net around here.  I find it annoying to see a month-old thread that wound itself down.  Hell, I find week-old threads annoying.

Don't necro threads, Ed.  It bugs a lot of people.  If any thread is more than a week old, start a new thread linking to it.

I'm not here for just that. And I'm not required to do that. I read a lot more than I post, if that means you'll undervalue my opinion so be it. I'm not going to change my posting style, or preferences just to please you.

To me closing a thread is censorship. While you may not see it this way, I do. At Bulldrek we had a guy who made things pretty annoying for a while. And people even discussed banning him, but he was never banned, his threads never closed. The community eventually ignored him, and his lame ass input. We never resorted to this sort of thing.

I will always argue passionately for as much freedom as possible, as I strongly believe in it. You may believe in something else, for your own reasons.

Nah, you can do that, but our culture here doesn't support it, and neither is it supported most online forums here.

Go on over to RPG.net or the Forge and necro a thread.  They are so much more tolerant than we are of that sort of thing.

Right, wrong or indifferent, you had to know that closing a thread was going to set off another fucking drama bomb.

Wasn't Nox banned from the OT forum? What does it matter if a thread he is subscribed to in a forum he's banned from gets bumped?

I don't really have a problem with old threads being revived, but only if there's a real point in reviving them. In this case there wasn't.  The thread itself was an idiotic subject, meant to make fun of a person who is no longer here, and the necroing of this thread added nothing at all to it.

On the other hand, if you want to necro a thread that's about a relevant topic, and add something productive and meaningful to it, that'd be another story.

You're an idiot, and just trying to be provocative. What is this now, another one of your attempts at hijinks? What next, going to try to intentionally start an inter-forum war?

I mean come on: TELL ME WHAT THE FUCK WAS CENSORED, YOU CRETIN.

Explain exactly what people had a right to say before I'd closed that thread that they do not have a right to say now.

Yes, clearly that was my mistake, and Jrients has already berated me for that backstage.  So on his request, I've renamed and reopened the old fucking thread, so now people can have two threads to talk about idiotic subjects on instead of just one+as many more as they'd like to make.  See? I'm clearly Hitler.

But anyways, its like I said backstage, the fact that people who only have an interest in disrupting this site for their own motives will seize upon something I do to twist it into an hysterical claim of "censorship" when I and anyone rational know its not, is no motive for me to bend to their whims, if my conscience is clean.  I don't let a concern for what people who will hate or criticize me no matter what I do, or people who are just out to drudge up controversy on the site, govern the policies of this site. In great part because I have no such concern: They can all go fuck themselves with a spoon as far as I'm concerned.
