I've read two books of the Flandry stories by Poul Anderson and I'm rapidly coming to the conclusion that Flandry is nothing more than James Bond in Space. I'd like them to be more, but that is what I'm getting out of them.

Of course the same could be said of Stainless Steel Rat series by Harrison.

I can't recall which the Flandry books were though, I love Poul Anderson.

Ugh, the Flandry books are going back to the used book store. Too formulaic.

Silverlion, if you could recommend me some other Poul Anderson books or stories, I'd appreciate it. Don't want to give up yet on the author, just that one series.

I loved Three Hearts & Three Lions, and Operation Chaos (Operation Luna a little less)

I'm reading through one series now that isn't sticking. The Van Riijn method collection--though If ind it interesting that the prequel stories posit what is basically freeform RPG's years before we got one in real life.

The War of the God's (IIRC, the Viking fantasy one) was pretty good as well.

I think that's part of the problem of any "mystery" or "espionage" writing is that they'll become formulaic in time. (James Bond, House and others for example.)

Thank you. I'll be hitting the used book store today.
