This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

So why should I watch this film then?

Quote from: JongWK;354520Pan's Labyrinth is a masterpiece by Guillermo Del Toro (Cronos, Hellboy). Do not watch it it with young kids, though, unless you're planning to give them some early psychological scars.
Hah!  Our local video store had to put a hand-written warning on the promotional poster for Pan's Labyrinth: "NOT for children!!!"

I once had a friend ask me about Princess Mononoke. I told him that it as great, but definitely not for kids. He watched it with his kids, and called after to bitch at me about it.
You are posting in a troll thread.

But Aos, it's a cartoon!  Cartoons are for kids!  The Simpsons, for instance, is clearly intended for children.

Next time you hear from this guy, recommend Fritz the Cat.  It's a cartoon, too.

A good alternative to KKBB is In Bruges. Good movie. Slightly lighter black humour, but makes up for it with some good old-fashioned mockney and Irish bad language.

Tell him that you are not responsible for advice not taken.

Or have him watch Perfect Blue with his kids, which is also an anime...

Again, watched it haphazardly the first time and missed bits - sat down properly and really enjoyed it.

Hmmm, instead of In Bruges, I'd go for Sexy Beast. Some good old fashoined thesping from Ben Kingsley. Haven't seen that in a long time.

I was intrigued by a clip for that one, showing an orange Ray Winstone in seedos and although I'm not usually into gangster films I did enjoy it - Kingsley was very good.

One crime film I did enjoy watching for the first time last year was Layer Cake.

Layer Cake was good. Maybe you should check another Winstone flick by the writers of Sexy Beast - '44 Inch Chest :

Coincidently I'd just seen an advert for that one tonight. Looks like a decent cast and no mockney accents, so that's even more of a bonus. ;)

I am reminded I need to pick up a copy of Croupier at some point too.

Time to start checking out the January sales for a fresh stack of DVDs I think

+1 for Sexy Beast.  Worth two watchings.

Sexy Beast is definitely an inspiration of In Bruges.

Sir Ben Kingsley is great in it. I just love how pettily malicious he is. The scene where he pisses all over the bathroom floor when having a slash sums him up. :D

- Pan's Labyrinth

See City of the Lost Children instead.   Unless you really love Alice in Wonderland style movies, then see both.

- Solaris

Wait for the next remake.  Eventually, somebody will make visual sense out of Lem's original story.

- Daywatch/Nightwatch

I love Timur's visuals and much of the action in both flicks is truly jaw dropping awesome.  If you love cool F/X, see both.  If you like movies to make sense, avoid both.

- Babel

Utter crap.

- Kiss Kiss Bang Bang

What everyone else said.  It's a great buddy action/crime flick with some of the best banter and dialogue in many years.   Way better than In Bruges and probably equal to Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels.

- Pan's Labyrinth

Watch this film! Doesn't have a happy hollywood ending, but it is a beautiful film that is definately worth seeing.

People mention District 9 a lot - wait until it's free on tv. Not worth renting, and not worth buying. I honestly don't know why it is so well liked.

But then again, I am also continually bewildered at the popularity of Dr. Who.

So take my opinion as you will...
