This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

I humbly submit Media Monkey for your consideration. I have over 17,000 .mp3's and it works flawlessly, allowing rapid searching, and also has a ready-loaded sidebar that allows for quick sorting based on artist, genre, year, album, title, etc...

It's also free and easy to uninstall if you don't like it. Anyway, just thought I'd share.

I almost mistook you for spam. ;)

Looks interesting, though I'm a Winamp user.

I've been a dedicated Winamp user for years. The reason I switched to MM, honestly, is because I like to make quick mixes based on genre and/or year, and that's very difficult in Winamp.

Dude, Media Monkey ROCKS!

I've been using it for over five years now.  It's totally worth the switch!

If only I could get it to run on my linux box...

The haphazard nature of the tags in the various MP3 files in my collection basically make music organizers next to worthless, and I'm far, far too disinterested in going back and manually coding every last one of them.

So I pretty much just dump them all in a Winamp playlist, and use ctrl-alt-J to search for the songs I want.

I was the same way before I retagged mine. And I've never found a good program for bulk tagging... I had to do all mine track by track. Actually I'm not even done, as I have about 3,000 files only partially tagged.

I only ever rip my mp3s from CDs I own, so I usually have to tag them myself.  It was never an issue.

It's a big issue for people who download.

Seriously.  Half the people who post shit on things like Limewire can't even get the band or the song name right.

Even the legit download purchase sites have no consistency between them in how they name their files, or how they do the song tags.

What kills me are the folks who are using files that I know had to be spoof names from the Napster/Audiogalaxy days, when people used fake names to fool the filters. 5 years later and I still see files like "Elton John - Cat Scratch Fever" and "Weird Al Yankovic - Every freaking comedy song ever written on planet earth."
