This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

[TFTG] Employee turnover & Gamers

At the store we recently "lost" someone . Lost - as in she is no longer with our company, not that she died or anything.

SO, we've been taking applications and hiring.

I am slightly bewildered at the outfits some of these 'kids' wear when grabbing applications or looking for jobs. only yesterday did somwone show up in a jacket and tie. When I was a teen and in my early 20s I was taught that you should try to look your best when applying for jobs - because you never know if that manager might do an 'instant interview'.

Looks like we got a new person hired.

Now yesterday I hear one of my other co-workers has put in her 2-week notice. She was working 3 jobs as it was - so its likely one of her other jobs offered her increased hours.

One of the people we previously interviewed might be replacing her. I've also heard one of the new hires is an avid GURPS player.  She has bee a regular customer in the past.

In the store in your area - how often does the turnover happen in the staff?

Amusingly, it is part of the same chain that you work at and the turnover is pretty high. I think that some crappy upper management here locally is responsible for most of that, though.

At least that was why I walked out on working for them.

Almost non-existent, but its run by a husband and wife, and a fairly small operation. Sometimes I see their eldest daughter in their helping him out. I've not seen his wife in a while (I think she works another job most of the time these days.)

I appreciate them, albeit I can't spend as much money as I'd like with them either.

I see a fair bit of turnover in the game stores. There are a core few who've been there for years, and the rest who come and go. In one of the stores, I've actually happened to be in there a few times when someone came for an interview.

They weren't very well-dressed or well-spoken, but then neither are the staff. The interview was conducted on the actual game store floor in front of customers, which seemed to me not very professional. Someone's work history and how the store is run should be more or less confidential.

I'm not sure on what basis they hire the staff. It's not good looks, being well-dressed or well-spoken, it's not knowledge of the products, it's not customer service, as customers are generally ignored until they come up to the bench.

Well, it used to be almost none- Ed ran the store (different Ed :D) and he had someone come in and help, but he was always there. He closed though :( and we don't have a game store.

So we started an online store. No turnover here :D

You might be thinking of the longer handled skillets popular today, but I learned on one handed skillets (good for building the forearm and wrist strength!).  Of course, for spicing while you beat,

There are two stores in my area, one that is good which doesnt seem to have any turnover and one that is ok and the only turnover I saw was the manager.

It was good the old manager left the so so store because the store was never clean when he is there and there were boxes everywhere.

Now that store is clean (though the elitist attitude is still around).

I am not sure if it's still that way.  I don't go into either game store anymore as I only buy games online at online stores now.
