This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Quote from: TonyLBYeah ... but there are people on TAR, for instance who say things that I'm quite confident no amount of stress or sleep-deprivation could force me to say.  I mean ... particularly in their commentary on third-world countries, some of these people say things that you just boggle at, and they say it with a blithe sincerity that just blows your mind.

Oh, I agree.  And there are certainly some racial, ethnic, gender, and social divides that come out in Survivor, too (e.g., black people becoming outsiders to a group of insider white and asian players seems to be pretty common).  While I think some of it is malicious or even racist, I think a lot of it is just ignorance. For example, I think a lot of the stuff that Rocky is doing that could be seen as racist (he seems to pick on a lot of black players) is really more of a cultural clash than racism, while the crap going on in Moto sure does look bad.  Really bad, though I was happy to see Alex standing up a bit against it.

Quote from: TonyLBI totally get that it highlights the way you perceive the difference.  I hope you'll understand that it doesn't seem like such a good analogy to me, because I don't perceive the differences the same way.  Not much more to say about that, really.

Sure.
