This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

I'm really pissed and must vent

And thats the best way to do it, pity that the hardcore grogs dont see it that way (well a small group of them that is).

Its been said before over and over again, canon is only really important to the designers of Traveller products, gamers dont have to toe the line and are free to do as they wish.

So, you in?  Dynamo Joe for the setting, a bit of Blue Planet, Firefly and Star Frontiers thrown in?  Plus whatever else I can hammer together at the last minute?

If you have a good game, hell yeah why not ;)

Ive played many a game of Traveller where ive "borrowed" one or two (or OK a whole movie) ideas from other sources in my time.
Thats the real difference, I play Traveller and can do what I want its MTU BUT well working on it I have to go with canon as its the OTU - dont mess with the mess ;)

Very true, its just with Traveller (and some others) that it seems to draw in a hardened bunch of fans (re:fanatics).

Well, it has always been touted as 'hard sci-fi', which I think plants that psychological bug of 'consistency uber alles'.

That happens all the time with the MARP games. The much admired, rarely-played. You should see the old Ars Magica arguments... or Harn...
