This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Quote from: Seanchai;448999No. However, there's a difference between "greatest movie ever" and bad. I wasn't expecting Shakespeare, but I also wasn't expecting to be bored and waiting impatiently for the movie to end.

I wasn't really including you in the mouth-frothing group I was referring to. If you were bored with it, or just didn't like it, so be it. None of your comments were over-the-top. I was reffering to those who felt a need to scream to the four winds how colossally cheated they were and that Zack Snyder should be decried as the next antichrist, etc., etc.

My point is, if you (the proverbial "you") didn't like it, you didn't like it. Just don't act like the movie somehow damaged you for life or something.

Quote from: Aos;448990Can someone give me a 50 word or less summary of Spike's review, I'm immune to "Text Wall."

Lobotomised sister-killer has burlesque fantasy that replaces dancing with pastiche action scenes, and burlesque music with trip-hop covers done by the lead actress.

This makes the movie sound cooler than it actually is. It has Jena Malone running around in thigh highs and I still found it utterly unsexy.

Quote from: Aos;448987Well, now I have to see it.

But Watchmen is my favorite super hero movie (Darknight and Ironman tie for second).

I hate everything Zach Snyder does except for his cinematography. I'm pretty sure he hates humanity. Certainly every film of his I've seen portrays everyone in it as pieces of shit.
Running
The Pernicious Light, or The Wreckers of Sword Island;
A Goblin\'s Progress, or Of Cannons and Canons;
An Oration on the Dignity of Tash, or On the Elves and Their Lies

Playing: Dark Heresy, WFRP 2e

Really? I didn't find the characters in Watchmen any more or less reprehensible than their counterparts in the GN- except for Nixon, maybe. 300 wasn't gay enough for me, though.

I did, though it's a subtle thing. Pretty much every change Zach Snyder made was to make things more vicious and grim, except for maybe the slight clean-up of Ozymandias' plot by removing the psychic shit.

I'm going to have to disagree, to a small extent anyway, if anything, I found Dan/Nightowl to be even more sympathetic, and even, dare I say it, a trifle heroic in the movie.  I also found both Lori and her mother to be more likable.

S'okay, I've taken some heat from friends because I should apparently have no expectations of the movie save that girls kick ass in fantastic landscapes because that's all the trailers were about.

The review is trying way too hard to be clever when not necessary. If you couldn't even figure out how the little girl died in the beginning, you shouldn't review the movie.

It was really good, in any case.

It's also a modern retelling of An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge, but with lots more bombers and robots.

Also, anyone expecting coherence from a girl who is in shock and loaded with psychoactive drugs by the asylum viewpoint (which is 99% of the movie) is really missing the point.

Y'know... I expect flack for dwelling too much on every last detail. Its refreshing that someone hates me/it for not dwelling close enough.  =D

When I wrote the review it was two days after I watched it, and now its been over a week. What I remember is Evil Stepdad chasing the girl into a closet, then a cut away to Babydoll playing spiderman in the rain.

Strangled? Raped to death? Stabbed?  I didn't see a knife, and the gun was still in ES's office for Babydoll to find, well established on film.

So, fine: I don't think it mattered how she died, just like it wasn't important to ever get a close look at her.  She is a plot piece there to be killed quickly. Buy by all means, tell me what stunning revelation I apparently missed?

I know: She was lobotomized to death!

Also: For the record these are less reviews than deliberately snarky play-by-plays, coupled with a whatever crapsack meta-analysis I can manage.  I mean, for god's sake the last one was Mutant Chronicles!  If I had aspirations to movie reviewing I wouldn't be doing them here after all...

Also: if I can keep Aos from reading them its a win!

Love ya babe!
For you the day you found a minor error in a Post by Spike and forced him to admit it, it was the greatest day of your internet life.  For me it was... Tuesday.

For the curious: Apparently, in person, I sound exactly like the Youtube Character The Nostalgia Critic.   I have no words.

When BabyDoll fired the pistol, it ricocheted and killed her sister.

And being lobotomized is basically being killed, at least mentally.

I'm pretty sure the sister was dead before Babydoll even got there with the pistol.  During the spiderman sequence, Evil Stepdad was in the closet wrestling with the girl, and when Babydoll showed up, he was more or less outside the closet, not struggling.

Given the director, I'm certain that if the sister had been killed by babydoll, especially by accident, we would have had a slo-mo reaction shot crumble.

Sure. When it comes out on DVD I will, probably, buy it and watch it then.

Of course, by then I will probably not remember this conversation. C'est la vie!

This--moreso than the prior misses from the director, the tepid reviews here and elsewhere, and the numbing stupidity of the trailers--has convinced me that this movie is worth giving a miss. For saving me 2 hours of my life and 15 bucks, I thank you.
