My house is set back from the road and from these houses by a garden.
My mother (we live in the same village) lives at the end of the row that burned down, but fortunately wasn't affected.

Not either side, no :)

Though that's possible with thatch and sparks flying.

Mine doesn't, but is surrounded by houses that do.

Minus the fire hazard and the expense of getting thatchers these days its a great insulator and recyclable :)
