Tom Clancy passed away. He was a great author. I personally loved Red Storm Rising and The Hunt for Red October. He has been kind of hidden the last few years, and it appears it was because he was sick. RIP.

(I must be bad luck, as all my favorite authors are dying/have died. Douglas Adams, Robert Heinlein, Robert Asprin, several others. Or maybe I'm just getting old.)

The early Ryan books were entertaining as hell: Red October, Cardinal of the Kremlin, Clear and Present Danger, Sum of All Fears.

Debt of Honour and Executive Orders were weak though, and Rainbow Six was just plain stupid. I didn't read the ones after it.

A friend of mine summed it up well: "Clancy survived his career about 20 years or so."
