This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

For the curious, I just wrote up a WW1 novel about fighter pilots for my blog.  I mention it as I know some of you are into Aces and Spades, Clash's game, and the novel might therefore be interesting to you.

Not my best writeup sadly, sick as a dog today, but there you go.

Goshawk Squadron was one of my most important research reads for Aces In Spades. Lovely book, if you like bleak. :D

Check out War Story and also Hornet's Sting if you can find it. Together, these cover the whole Great War. I think that they are actually a trilogy, with some common characters, though I haven't been able to get my hands on Hornets Sting as of yet to confirm this.

My first NPC Squadron commander for my Aces In Spades campaign was based on Wooley. The PCs largely hated him, and one PC accidentally killed him in combat, but they also understood how hard he had worked to make them prepared for war. The Honor-Practicality mechanism tracks the Gentleman-Player dichotomy perfectly.

Have you read The Hunters?  Also worth a look IMO, though a very different time and place of course.
