This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

My concern with Obama is that he could be over-militaristic, to show he's tough, not under.

He's never served after all has he?  Blair looked like he would be kind of soft, and took us into more wars than any prime minister in decades.

That aside, am I correct the aids-bomb thing was a joke?  The Russians and Chinese are doing nothing of the kind, a nuclear bomb would vapourise any biological material attached to it instantly and anyway infecting your enemies with a weapon that takes years to kill them would be imbecilic in this context.

That and Russia would be far more likely nowadays to wage economic war IMO if it wanted to get nasty, China likewise.

Back during the 2000 US Presidential campaign, I heard any number of people complaining that McCain, as a product of the military, was a war-monger.  I rather painfully pointed out the number and nature of conflicts initiated by civilian leaders, suggesting that this was possibly due to the fact that they didn't have a realistic and personal perspective on what the real cost of war was.  This didn't go over well at the time.

I _really_ don't think you have to be worried about that.

I don't know what's scarier, the fact that out of all the absurd things in my post you singled that one thing out (meaning the rest of the post is more plausible) or the fact that someone out there might actually think that a nuclear AIDS bomb is possible.

Dude, with our respective countries' educational systems, I find nothing incredible in the idea of folk believing in aids bombs.

And that's probably the scariest thing of all!  :)

Quote from: John MorrowIt could get even uglier than that if the Russians decide to get involved militarily on behalf of Serbia.
While Putin certainly is a ruthless guy, I doubt that he would be dumb enough to get into direct military action with western forces.

The thought of a xenophobic, trigger-happy bunch that's a.) desperate to make some gains to compensate for their massive land losses (especially as the loss of Montenegro made them land-locked), b.) feels insulted by and alienated with the West, c.) couldn't throw a dead cat over the border without hitting either an EU member, an EU candidate country or a Western occupying troop and d.) enjoys Russian support sounds like the usual Powder Keg of Europe and could be recipe for disaster enough.

Basically the only thing worse than helping Muslims, is hurting Communists. Boy oh boy does the western media love those Commies. Milosevich was an evil butcher until NATO started, you know, whipping his ass. At that point he became a victim, someone the mean old west was picking on with our big bombs and stuff.
