This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

I almost put this in the RPG section.

Just after the 2nd time I watched WATCHMEN I stopped in a branch of HALF-PRICE Books. They also sell DVD and Videotapes there. I discovered for around $6.95 a two Disc package of the 1954 TV series ....

ROCKY JONES : SPACE RANGER!!

It only lasted a season and half - so WHY is it on DVD?? Because the producers back then decided to do it on film rather than stage it 'live' or on videotape. As a result we have it 50 plus yars later to look at.

Its not bad  - I at first bought it out of curiosity and because it seemed like a bargain.

Truthfully , its pretty damn entertaining.

Then,...I started to get the beginning embers of an RPG campaign idea from it. Some campaign ideas are starting form now. I got a hankering to watch the 1980 FLASH GORDON, original Buster Crabbe BUCK ROGERS if I can find it ...etc....

One interesting bit out of it :the good ol rocketship 'Orbit Jet X-V2" has a woman navigator. Granted, she wears a skirt as part of her uniform - but she also stands up for herself when something sexist was said.  That was unexpected - keep in mind this was supposed to be a kids show in 1954. A lottle bit of Women's lib a decade early.

I went and checked - and one of the regularscrupotwriters was a woman named Marianne Mosner. Most recent credit I saw for her was writing an episode of the sat morning shjow "Space Academy" for CBS. (Which would also make a good RPG setting)
Even during the time of the original STAR TREK there weren't that many women television scriptwriters. Dorothy Fonmtanaa had to disguise her name slightly as " D.C. Fontana" to get more work at the time.

If You find the DVDs in your area - its worth a look.

I got a couple Rocky Jones in one of those big boxes you can pick up, with 100 movies on twenty disks for $10. I love those things. Rocky's pretty entertaining. He makes me think of Dan Ackroyd playing overly-seriously for irony, but there's none there. Rocky is strictly L-7, baby. And that's OK.
Employment Counselor: So what do you like to do outside of work?
Oblivious Gamer: I like to play games: wargames, role-playing games.
EC: My cousin killed himself because of role-playing games.
OG: Jesus, what was he playing? Rifts?
