This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Quote from: J Arcane;242703My favorite part though is the RNC suddenly announcing they'll be suspending most of the major events of the conference after this minor stink hit the fan.  Talk about cheap political opportunism.  You people really think they would've done the same if those cracks hadn't been made?

I am sure you are disappointed that they didn't continue on with the convention acting like the hurricane wasn't there. I am sure you'll have to save all your "see they don't care about the people... the black people" rhetoric until the next natural disaster.

Quote from: John Morrow;242670It's really pretty simple.  In the Jackalopeverse, saying hateful, rude, and violent things is only wrong if conservatives do it.  Jackalope can talk about bashing faces in with rocks and wanting people do die and then turn around and complain about Ann Coulter wanting people to die.  To him, the ends justify the means and he's said as much.  He would have made a great member of the Khmer Rouge or the Red Guard were he born in a different place and time.

I think it is something that infects many left-wing radicals. Fowler can't just apologize for the remarks, he blames the "right wing" for it!

"One doesn't anticipate that one's private conversation will be surreptitiously taped by some right-wing nutcase," said Fowler. "But that's the nature of what we're dealing with."[1]

Not sure why they keep bringing up Falwell either. He was loudly critiqued by all, left and right.

Nobody is holding me up as a spokesperson for the Left, and if god forbid someone did I would sure as hell clean up my act.

Furthermore, there is a huge difference between me saying I'd like mto bash YOUR face in with a rock because of what a frustrating, contentious little fuckweasel you are, and Ann Coulter saying all liberals should be subjected to tyranny to keep them in check.

What i said was just a really hostile and over-the-top way of expressing my frustration in the moment with you, becaus eyou were annoying the fuck out of me.  What Coulter said was a thinly veiled call for brownshirts to rise up in the streets against liberal enemies of the state.  And she said it in a national forum, while acting as a spokeswoman for the American right.

Ptthppt.  Whatever, you're a morally bankrupt jackass who regularly excuses the use of questionable means to clearly immoral ends.  You've got no place judging me, you fascist shitheel.

Anyways, you've already said you support the American Revolution, so you getting on my case for thinking that revolutionary violence is sometimes acceptable is just pure, unadulterated hypocrisy.

If you get into debates advocating certain positions, you become a spokesperson for those positions, whether you want the role or not.

So your frustration justifies outrageous over-the-top statements but Ann Coulter's frustration doesn't.

No, you simply ignore me every time I condemn the behavior that you assume I'll justify.  Your straw men don't dance.

No, the problem is that you are too blinded by partisanship to be able to tell the difference between a uniformed army acting on behalf of elected representatives and fighting off another army and people who do stuff like this.

Dude, Ed, John just argued that if I talk about left/liberal issues, then I am a spokesman for liberals in the same way that Ann Coulter -- with her book contracts, websites, and regular TV appearances -- is a spokeswoman for the right.

You can't win an argument with someone when they are being that flat out disingenuous.  Words become meaningless, and every thing that gets said becomes so open to interpretation and twisting that meaningful communication is possible.

It's real simple.  You can't have a rational, reasonable conversation with someone who argues that A = B, or that 1 + 1 = 3, because having a rational, reasonable conversation requires all involved parties to not engage in total fucking bullshit like pretending having the ability to post your own personal opinions on the internet, and using that opportunity to tell someone frustrating you that you'd liek to hit them in the face with a rock is anything at all like having the opportunity to regular present an opinion on behalf of conservatives to a national audience, and saying "We need to execute people like [John Walker Lindh] in order to physically intimidate liberals."

Seriously man, if I was ever given a national platform and used it to say something as revolting as that, I'd expect to be tarred, feathered, and banned from polite society.

Forget it Ed. You really can't win with someone who basically saying, "I can say stupid shit because someone more famous then me say stupid shit.” What’s amusing is it sounds like he listens/reads tons more Ann Coulter than the rest of us combined.

I think it's pretty obvious that I read a great deal more political works than most here, from a broader range of ideas.

In fact, I suspect that reason I recognize the modern conservative movement is fascist and most conservatives don't is because, unlike them, I have actually read (and listened to) not only more conservative writings, but more liberal writings, and more fascist writings than most of the people here.

I mean, I've gathered that none of the conservatives here have ever read the speeches of Goebbels and Hitler, have probably not read Mein Kampf, have not read Mussolini's works on fascism, etc.

Really, the most laughable part of these conversation is that you all trip over yourself to denounce me for calling you fascists, but none of you have even a dim clue as to what fascism is.

And now, of course, CavScout will imply that because I've read fascist literature, I must be a fascist.  Because people like CavScout -- by which I mean drooling retarded monkeys who eat their own filth -- can barely be bothered to educate themselves about their own political positions, let alone see the value in educating themselves about opposition positions.

So, you do listen/read more Ann Coulter than most of us. Why not say "yes" instead of a thesis paper on how this makes you more GI Joe than the rest of us?
