It sucks massive donkey balls. The few nice bits are drowned by oceans of shit. Brendan Fraser's 30 seconds cameo has better acting than the other 2 hours of the movie.

Save your money for something else, like RPGs.

Saw it. I was not a huge GI Joe-head back in the day (sure, I had some of the toys and watched the show a bit), so I didn't have a ton of preconceived notions going in.

It didn't matter. It was pretty bad. Even as just an action-adventure sci-fi shoot-em-up, it was pretty bad. I was really looking forward to the giant underwater base (can't have enough of them, IMHO), but the dog-fighting subs acting exactly like aircraft in air were off-putting. And then there' the whole (SPOILER!!!!) crushing the base by breaking up the ice cap above - which then sinks in chunks and smashes it.

Yup. Ice. Sinking.

Anyway. Baroness was hot. Scarlett was hot. The accelerator suits were kinda nifty (but they still would have died from massive internal trauma).

And FOR FUCK'S SAKE STOP IT WITH THE GODDAMN SHAKEY-CAM ACTION SCENES!!!!! JESUS CHRIST, THEY HAD GUYS SITTING STILL, NOT SHOOTING, HAVING A HEATED CONVERSATION - AND THE CAMERA WAS WIGGLING LIKE IT WAS BEING RUN BY AN EPILEPTIC STANDING ON A PLATFORM MADE OF JELLO!!!! FUCKING HELL, HOLLYWOOD, STOP IT RIGHT THIS GODDAMN MINUTE YOU FUCKS!!!!!  I PAID $12:50 OR WHATEVER OUTRAGEOUS PRICE THIS FUCKING TICKET WAS - TO WATCH A MOVIE! NOT TO HAVE TO TRY TO PUZZLE OUT WHO WAS PUNCHING WHOM AND WHO IS SHOOTING AT WHAT!!!! HOLY FUCKING CHRIST, ENOUGH ALREADY!!!

Now back to your regular movie review.

I saw it last night. Maybe it was because I'm running on chronic fatigue but I didn't mind it much.  Scarlett was a lightweight and her stupid crossbow was a bit over the top... and it was odd that they cast a European Actress (Sienna Miller, British) to play the (normally) European Baronness... then made the Baronness into an American.. wtf?

SPOILERS FOLLOW:

Why the hell didn't they start using the 'cobra commander' until the very VERY end of the movie? And 'Destro'... who wasn't really 'Destro' at all until... again, the VERY VERY end of the movie???

Never mind the entire plot based on Destro stealing some shit he'd made and sold to the US... instead of just making extra for himself?  Seriously?  And Channing Tatum could NOT bore me more if he tried.  And the poor Wayons... none of 'em has a lick of Gravitas.  Good comedic timing can only carry you so far.

And am I the only one wondering just how the hell motherfuckers 'sneak' into enemy bases in such loud vehicles?

And 'Covergirl'? Seriously: She's credited, the news made a big deal out of her casting. Where was she? The 'nameless' blonde corporal that gets knifed in the back???!!! Really???

Other than that, I guess I had fun.
For you the day you found a minor error in a Post by Spike and forced him to admit it, it was the greatest day of your internet life.  For me it was... Tuesday.

For the curious: Apparently, in person, I sound exactly like the Youtube Character The Nostalgia Critic.   I have no words.

QuoteG.I. Joe Blasts Competition At U.S. Box Office
9 August 2009 6:36 PM, PDT

G.I. Joe: The Rise Of Cobra has blown away the competition at the U.S. box office, taking in $56.2 million (£37.5million) in its opening weekend (07-09Aug09).

The action blockbuster, starring Dennis Quaid, Channing Tatum and Sienna Miller, stomped out the competition and commanded the lead over Meryl Streep and Amy Adams' new film Julie & Julia, about chef Julia Child.

The cooking comedy took in $20.1 million (£13.4million) at the second spot, while animated action film G-Force held on to number three with $9.8 million (£6.5million) in earnings.

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, the sixth instalment of the wizard franchise, slid from two to four with an additional $8.9 million (£5.9million) that brought its four-week total to $273.8 million (£182.5million).

But it was former box office champion Funny People that took the biggest dive. Judd Apatow's comedy was knocked from the top spot to fifth with an additional $7.9 million (£5.3million) in its second week, taking the 10-day total to $40.4 million (£26.9million).

Pretty good, actually. As of yesterday, the gross revenues were on 164.. , and given that the budget was of 170.. (according to wikipedia) then it doesn't look that bad for them.

Uh, no.

Gross revenue is shared between the producers, distributors, theater owners, etc. You also need to add the cost of the marketing campaign, which can be between $50 to $100 million dollars.

It's not even close to breaking even.

EDIT: This, however, is pretty interesting.

Dude: two weeks. And I meant "pretty good if the flick sucks that much"

Quote from: JongWKEDIT: This, however, is pretty interesting.

So in the end the movie will make, in an average, roughly 5 times the money it makes on theaters. Geez. I should have been in tha mooveez.

I'd be sort of surprised and disappointed in any otherwise intelligent human being who expected it to be otherwise.

There is "so bad it is good" and "just plain bad." This movie belongs to the second category.
