Quote from: RPGPunditYes, that's true.

The Mexicans have stopped sacrificing people to the sun; while we've stopped invading other nations, murdering their citizens and trying to convert them, by force if necessary, to our way of thinking while installing puppet rulers...oh wait...

RPGPundit

Pundy, MOST americans don't favor the occupation of iraq, don't try to use DUHbya, a little grofaz who didn't even win the fucking election he got to the white house in, as an example of western culture.

As to the mexicans stopping human sacrifice, yeah, now they just drive by people down for being in a different gang, along with anyone who happens to be nearby.
RPGPundit is a fucking fascist asshole and a hypocritial megadouche.

Yamo

I just saw it today.

I thought it was pretty okay. A little slow, but some nice action and great sets, costumes and acting.

As for bias, I think it's important to note that both the heroic protagonist and his allies and the antagonists are all "Mayans." That alone speaks to a fairly balanced treatment.
In order to qualify as a roleplaying game, a game design must feature:

1. A traditional player/GM relationship.
2. No set story or plot.
3. No live action aspect.
4. No win conditions.

Don't like it? Too bad.

Not necessarily. But I do get where you are coming from.

I think gibson deserves some credit for making a movie set in this era, it's not exactly a major genre, y'know.

But the bastard still owes me 10$ for "Signs". Oh dear lord that movie sucked.

But hey, wait, weren't you just talking on another thread about how Iraq was important to prevent the "rise of islamofascism"??

Don't you see that you don't even make internal sense, you fucking nutjob?

Oh yeah, and mexicans gun people down, islam is evil, and black people should be whipped, but you're not racist, right?

The "we" is western civilization.  And yea, I know its an exaggeration, but it was too hard to resist the quip.

Hi, Nox.  My last name is Reyes, and although I'm only half-Mexican, I gotta say I have a warm spot in my heart for the culture, warts and all.

So.  Are you...what?  Half schlong?

I just went to see Apocalypto, and I waited to see the movie before reading or commenting on this.

As a movie, I loved it.

As history, it's totally bunged up.

The Mayans are conflated with the Aztecs, the time period is all wrong, and the details were made up out of thin air.

The actors were very appealing, and Gibson's eye for the grotesque is as sharp as ever. He made this movie like we would make an rpg game - lots of action and history is a backdrop that is freely malleable. WHATEVER MAKES A GOOD GAME/MOVIE!

And the Spanish are hardly in it. You see their ships and a boat come in. That's it. They don't even touch land.

I hope that you aren't spoiling the end, or heads will roll... ;)

That's all I needed to hear. Some of my friends were appalled that (because of my views on religion)the Passion worked for me -refer to my earlier post for why - except for the last scene off course.

It's probably about as brutal as the Passion, and a wicked cool movie. :D

Never saw "the passion" and never intend to. Never seen "Apacolypto" and never intend to.

I think "Signs" will be the last gibson movie I ever see. He shoulda stuck to mad max.

Uh, Signs was just him starring. Passion, Braveheart, and Apocalypto are Gibson directing. The star really doesn't have a lot to say about a movie. Gibson isn't even acting in Apocalypto...

I thought Apocalypto started good and then god worse. And worse. And then I realized I was watching a Mayan remake of First Blood. Well acted, with some brilliant sets, but realy they skipped the city scene far too quickly.

Really, I liked the Patriot better. More interesting characters and altogether better paced. Also, the Patriot is hilarious in its ridiculousness, whereas Apocalypto was just maddening.
